WESLACO - Leroy Curtis, 75, passed away in Weslaco on Saturday, November 1, 2014. Even though Lee lost his four-year battle with cancer, he fought the good fight and won life’s ultimate victory. He is now at home with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Lee always said, “What a glorious day that will be.”
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, J.J. Curtis, son Robbie Curtis (Tammy), daughter Sandi Haege (Gregg), brother Steven Curtis (Barbara) and three grandchildren, Christopher Curtis, Jessica Curtis, and Alexis Haege.
Lee was born in San Bernardino, California, Jan. 25, 1939, and grew up in San Diego. After serving 20 years in the US Air Force, he and J.J. moved to Weslaco in 1980. He sold many of the first word processors and then computers to Valley businesses. Before retiring for the second time, he worked in the South Texas Health System IT Department.
For their compassionate care, Lee especially wanted to thank his physicians, Dr. Alavaro Restrepo, Dr. Jeff Hines, and Dr. Hector Urrutia; the teams of nurses and caregivers who became friends at South Texas Cancer Center; McAllen Medical Center; Legends Rehab; D’Oro Home Health; and finally Selah Hospice Care.
Lee loved his family and his supportive First Baptist Weslaco Church family. He will be remembered for his sense of humor. He said that he hoped there would be chocolate chip cookies, golf courses, and a red Corvette for him in heaven.
A memorial service will be held at McCaleb Funeral Home, 900 W. 4th Street, Weslaco, Texas, on Saturday, Nov. 8th, at 10:00 A.M with Dr. Stephen Parker of First Baptist Weslaco Church officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests a memorial donation be made to First Baptist Church Weslaco Food Pantry Ministry (600 S. Kansas St, Weslaco, TX 78596) or Gideon’s Bibles (P.O. Box 710, Weslaco, TX 78596).
