Mercedes- Lloyd Schwarz, 92, passed away suddenly on Sunday, March 27th, 2022, at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen. On December 24th, 1929, Lloyd was born to Ben and Ruth (Imel) Schwarz in Mercedes, Texas. Lloyd grew up in Mercedes, the youngest of six children. Lloyd's father was a farmer, and Lloyd learned the value of a hard day's work when he was a child. After graduating from high school, Lloyd served in the US Army, stationed in Germany.
When Lloyd returned home, he knew what he wanted to do with his life. His passion had always been farming, so Lloyd made that dream come true. Lloyd spent most of his life outside on the farm, working from sunrise to sunset, but he loved every minute. He didn't leave a drop of sunlight and slept well at night. He married Pinkie Virginia Hensley, and they raised two boys, Clay and Steve. The boys eventually worked with their dad on Lloyd Schwarz Farms, the farm where Lloyd's parents, Ben & Ruth Schwarz, had raised Lloyd and his five siblings.
After Lloyd and Pinkie divorced, he married Sharon Kelly Pemelton, and they spent many happy years together. Lloyd was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church of Mercedes. He led by example and made full use of God's resources. Lloyd's hobby was working on the farm, but he did enjoy spending time with family and had a sarcastic side that would sometimes lighten the mood.
Lloyd is preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Ruth Schwarz, siblings B.L. Schwarz, Ellen Bartnesky, Nadine Crenshaw Pylant, Darlene Moore, and Jeannie Acree.
He is survived by his sons, Clay Schwarz of Payton, Colorado, Steve Schwarz (Letty) of Houston, grandchildren, Miles, Tanner, and Stacey Grace Schwarz.
A celebration of life will be Saturday, April 2nd, at 1:30 pm, at First Presbyterian Church in Mercedes, followed by burial at Ebony Grove Cemetery in Mercedes.
