Lucille Mae Emanuel

Lucille Emanuel, known by all as “Maw”, was born in Arkansas on February 24, 1908. Her biological mother passed away when she was 4 and her stepmother passed away when she was 12 years old. She helped her dad raise her siblings which made Lucille unable to go to school. The family moved to Livingston, Texas in 1915. She self- taught herself to cook, clean, sew and care for her siblings.
She married her husband Roy Andy Emanuel in 1926. Roy moved his family to the Rio Grande Valley in 1930 and brought his farming skills with him. During the slow farming season Roy ran his Emanuel Auto Service business. She and her husband had 6 children and adopted 2: Elroy Emanuel (now deceased), Cecil Emanuel, Hazel Casey (now deceased), Aileen Blair (now deceased), Marie Pepper, Vivian McPeters, Ruth Emanuel (now deceased), and Thelma Hinton. Her siblings preceding her in death are her brothers Tom, Roy, Charlie and H.C.; sisters Mag, Ruby Ann, Carrie and 2 others. She had 17 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and also some great-great grandchildren.
Her husband Roy Andy Emanuel died in an auto/train accident in 1957. She lived here in the valley until she was moved to a Smithville nursing home and passed away December 15, 2013. Maw’s legacy will live on forever for having been in the lives of so many family and friends she knew and loved.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 from 5pm to 8pm at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco. Graveside services and interment will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at 10am at Donna City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of McCaleb Funeral Home of Weslaco.
