Guadalupe Marcelino Rodriguez Sr, - 72 years of Weslaco, TX entered into eternal rest on 07-02-2016 after a long and courageous battle with Lupus. He was surrounded by his loving wife, his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and siblings at his home. He was born March 28, 1944 in Weslaco to Timoteo and Jovita Rodriguez. Guadalupe was known to all as Lupe M. Rodriguez. Lupe grew up in the Rio Grande Valley, as an active young boy, he participated in football throughout his school careers and he served as an altar boy at St. Joan of Arc. where he began a spiritual relationship with God he has maintained ever since. At a young age Lupe moved to Chicago with his parents, and worked various jobs to help support his family. It was through these jobs - a security guard, a painter, a factory worker- that he developed a mindset and work-ethic that he would later instill in each of his children. Lupe is preceded in death by his parents, Timoteo and Jovita Rodriguez and his sister San Juanita Chapa. Lupe is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Linda Louise Wilson, their seven children Tina Marie Oliva (Gerardo), Nielda Cavazos (Johnny), Guadalupe Rodriguez Jr (Sandra), Vinita Rodriguez (Ruben), Erasmo Rodriguez (Amy), Jovita Shives (Don) and Victoria Ramirez (Ruben), his five sisters, Maria Leal, Oralia Rodriguez, Magarita Valdez, Maria Rodriguez and Cirila Esquivel and one brother Roberto Rodriguez. He has numerous nephews and nieces. Lupe was passionate about his family, he enjoyed being the life of the party to his 36 grandchildren and 33 great grand children. He enjoyed spending time with all of his children, listening to music of all genres, watching boxing and his favorite history channel but most of all he loved watch his old western movies. Tina Oliva, Nielda Cavazos, Guadalupe Rodriguez Jr, Vinita Rodriguez, Erasmo Rodriguez , Jovita Shives, and Victoria Ramirez and each of their spouses and children, are embodiments of the moral character Lupe has, throughout his life, inspired in each of them. Through tears may be shed today, we can hold our heads up tomorrow knowing that our lives are better because of the sacrifices this man has made, and let us not dwell on what could have been, but what is and what will always be. Together they began a family , one that has fought , since as we know, no family is perfect, and yet one that has always found a way to come together when needed most. Let us continue loving this man until we all meet him again. God Bless.
