PROGRESO - Lydia Ybarra Gonzalez, 78, passed away surrounded by family, on July 31st, 2016. She was born on November 17th, 1937 to Maria del Pilar and Nasario Ybarra. She grew up in Progreso with her seven sisters. Lydia would attend Catholic School at St. Joan of Arc. She was a very hard worker and homemaker raising seven successful children of her own. Lydia worked hard to earn a living for her family. Family was the most important thing to her. She worked as a laborer, housekeeper and van driver for Relamago Daycare. Her hobbies included sports and gambling. She loved to go to casinos in Las Vegas and Louisiana. Lydia will mostly be remembered as a caring, loving, mother, who would give the shirt off of her back for anyone. Lydia is preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, San Juana Y. Serna, Francisca Y. Vasquez, Tomasa Y. Soto, and Viola Ybarra and two great grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Felipe Gonzalez, her sisters, Estefana Guajardo of Pharr, Maria Guevara (Damian) of Pharr, Timmie Gonzalez (Cipriano) of Weslaco, her children, Estella G. Trevino of McAllen, Lucila Garcia (Ramiro) of Weslaco, Sulema Munoz (Crisanto) of Progreso, Nora Zamora (Joe) of Round Rock, Juan Antonio Garcia (Diana) of Weslaco, Dalia Garcia (Kayron) of Weslaco, Armando Garcia (Lisa) of Progreso, adopted grandchildren, Amanda Marie Gonzalez and AJ Gonzalez, and 21 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 1st, from 3-9pm, Tuesday, August 2nd, from 9am-9pm, with a rosary both days at 7pm. Mass will be held on Wednesday, August 3rd, at 10am, at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Progreso, with interment to follow at Highland Memorial Park. Services are under the care of McCaleb Funeral Home.
