Lydia Ledesma

December 16, 1950 — January 7, 2018

WESLACO - Lydia Salinas Ledesma, 67, passed away at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco on Sunday, January 7, 2018 after a three year battle with breast cancer. Lydia was born on December 16th, 1950 to Rogelio and Celsa Salinas. She had eight brothers and sisters. Lydia grew up in Weslaco where she attended high school and met her future husband, Albino. After graduation, Albino was drafted to serve the country, but as soon as he returned, he and Lydia were married and spent the next forty-five years together. Lydia was a very hard worker. She worked as a dietician for several years at Valley Grande Manor and stayed home with the children for a few years. Her true passion and gift were sales. She worked in sales at Boudin's drug store for a while, but most will remember her from Well's of Weslaco, where she was in sales for over 30 years. Lydia had a natural gift in sales and also an eye for design and fashion. She worked the sales floor but also designed the window decorations for Well's to attract new customers. Lydia was driven to succeed and worked very hard, not only because she thrived in sales, but she genuinely enjoyed her career. Even though Lydia worked a lot of hours, her children Roy, Alex and Cristina were her priorities. She was determined to be involved in all of their activities, from sports to school and social activities. Lydia was a classic "soccer mom", who attended all of the children's activities, organizing all of the snacks and fundraisers, from baseball to band. She was the booster club president in most. She expected a lot out of her children and was very strict and dedicated to their success. She was extremely supportive when they made good choices and known to follow them to school when they made not so good ones. Lydia was a very devoted and loving wife. She and Albino had just recently been able to have a second honeymoon in New Mexico. They were also able to take several trips to Austin to visit their grandchildren. Above all else, Lydia was a devout Catholic. She was in the church rosary prayer group and she created the region of Mary at San Martin Catholic Church in Weslaco. She is proceeded in death by her father, Rogelio Salinas and her brother Jaime Salinas, brothers in law, Felipe Ledesma and Enrique "Henry" Ledesma. Lydia is survived by her beloved husband of 45 years, Albino Ledesma, her children Roy (Veronica) Ledesma of Austin, Christina (Eli) Mendez of Weslaco and Alejandro Ledesma of Weslaco, siblings, Maricela Salinas of Weslaco, Irma Zuniga (Macario) of Weslaco, Irene Trevino of Round Rock, Rogelio Salinas Jr. (Graciela) of Louisiana, Linda Salinas of San Antonio, Rene Salinas (Janie) of McAllen, and Ramiro Salinas of Weslaco, sisters in law, Martha Beraza (Joe) of Weslaco, Aurelia Arevalo of Houston, and Letty De la Garza (Elias) of Houston, her grandchildren Marc Mendez, Maximiliano Ledesma, Jacob Mendez, Diogo Ledesma, Andrew Mendez, Leah Ledesma and her mother, Celsa Guerra Salinas, and numerous nephews and nieces. Lydia will always be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who loved her heavenly father.
