Lynn Marie Hulme

July 11, 1911 — April 14, 2015

Weslaco/Donna/Seguin, TX - Lynn Marie (Cantwell) Hulme went to be with our Lord at the age of 103 on April 14, 2015. She was born on July 11, 1911 in Bowie, TX to Oscar and Kate Cantwell. She was their only daughter and was the oldest of their three children. She attended the Lone Prairie School District in Montague County.
Marie married William Self in 1929 and they were blessed with two daughters and a son. They lived in a small home in Donna, TX, which was owned by Mr. PP Ackley, founder of the historical Longhorn Chisholm Cattle Trail Association. Marie assisted in painting some of the markers for the cattle trail. One of these historical markers can be found at the square in Donna, TX. In 1942, she married Clifford Cooper. Their family continued to grow and they were blessed with a daughter. Marie was a Girl Scout Leader, housewife and loved to sew for family and friends. They lived on the family farm where they enjoyed eating crops that they grew, raised cattle, chickens, and sold eggs. Marie and her family attended the First Christian Church creating a foundation of faith for her family to grow from. After Clifford passed away in 1962, Marie stayed at the farm and began working for Wells of Weslaco doing clothing alterations. Marie married Albert Hulme in 1963 and moved to Fort Worth, TX where they owned and managed a small gift shop. She moved to Dallas after Albert passed away to be near her oldest daughter. She worked as a private caregiver for an elderly man and his family in Dallas during the last year of his life. She was a very caring, compassionate, and thoughtful individual who was always willing to help others. Family was very important to Marie. She was known as “Ma-Maw” by her grandchildren.
She was very heartbroken when her daughters Peggy and Wanda passed away. Marie had such a strong faith in God and looked to Him for strength. She read her Bible daily and meditated on the Word. Marie suffered great weakness in her last years, which made it difficult to attend church. Marie would enjoy watching Christian television to continue to hear the Word and praise God. She spent her last years with her son, Loy Dale and with her youngest daughter, Janelle. She enjoyed living her last days in such a beautiful, peaceful country setting at the Aurora House Foundation in Weslaco, TX. She will be greatly missed, but will be forever remembered by her family and friends that she touched.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Kate Cantwell, her husbands, William Self, Clifford Cooper, and Albert Hulme, her daughters, Wanda (Self) Martin, and Peggy (Self) Baxley, two brothers, AJ and Clarence Cantwell.
