Marcelo Hernandez, 46, passed away suddenly on Saturday, April 30th, 2022. Marcelo was born on January 16, 1976 to Evaristo Hernandez and Marcelina Sanchez in Mexico. Marcelo came to Donna, Texas, sixteen years ago and married Maria Josefa Cortes. He and Maria raised seven children together.
Marcelo worked countless hours and never turned down an opportunity to work. He worked outdoors in agriculture, manual labor, or landscaping. When Marcelo wasn’t working to support his family, he volunteered by landscaping and maintaining at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Progreso. If Marcelo wasn’t working or volunteering at church, he was usually helping someone. He had a heart of gold and was generous with his time and talents.
Marcelo also enjoyed a good laugh and joking with friends and family. He also appreciated a great meal after a hard day at work. Some of his favorites were tamales, black beans, menudo, and seafood. He also liked to relax with family and go fishing.
Marcelo was a role model to his children. His humility and work ethic was unmatched. Marcelo’s Catholic faith was a priority all of his life, and he taught his children the importance of faith and Christ. He built a nativity scene outside of the family home so they could enjoy it all year. Marcelo’s faith and work ethic brought his family out of poverty.
Marcelo is survived by his parents, Evaristo and Marcelina Hernandez, his loving wife, Maria, and seven children, Citlali, Yasmine, Marcelo Jr., Mariluz, Ashley, Christopher, and Jose Hernandez.
Visitation will be Thursday, May 5th, 10 am -9 pm, with a rosary at 7 pm at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco. Father Amador Garza will celebrate mass on Friday, May 6th, at 10 am at Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
