Marci Lou Powell

June 18, 1985 — August 9, 2018

WESLACO - Marci Lou Powell, 33, passed away on Thursday, August 9, 2018, in Edinburg during a tragic accident. Marci was born on June 18th, 1985 to Ruben Guajardo, Jr. and Maria Isabel De la Garza in McAllen, Texas. She was the first born of four children. When Marci was a small child, only six years old, she met her future husband and soulmate, Aaron Powell. Throughout their childhood years, they were separated by many states, cities, and counties, yet they always stayed in contact. Aaron returned to McAllen in time for high school and Marci went to Edinburg North. They were high school sweethearts. Marci was very outgoing and had a unique gift of caring for others. She developed close and meaningful relationships throughout her childhood and remained friends with her closest companions. Marci had a beautiful voice, singing in the choir for her high school and called upon many times to sing soprano. She was very adventurous and not afraid of anything. What was obvious to her friends, even in high school, is that the most spoken about the goal for Marci was to be a mom. She had a gift with children. It was no surprise that a year after high school, Marci and Aaron would be married in 2004. Aaron joined the service and stationed at Fort Sill Oklahoma and Marci was by his side. After he was honorably discharged, they returned to the valley. Marci earned her Bachelor's Degree from UTPA in education. Marci and Aaron began their family in 2009 when they had their first son, James "Ethan". Marci's dream of motherhood had come true and she strived to be the best mom and wife she could be. She was always the first to volunteer at school and showed unconditional patience with her children. They were blessed with twins, Darren Bryce and Kenneth Brent a few years later, and finally, baby, Joshua Devin. Marci had plans to begin teaching when Joshua went to school. She will always be remembered as a devoted wife and mother, a loving daughter, a volunteer, and a friend who could always be counted on. Marci passed away along with her son, Joshua Devin Powell, and mom, Maria Isabel De La Garza. She is also preceded in death by her grandmother, Mercedez De la Garza. She is survived by her loving husband of fourteen years, Aaron Powell, sons, James "Ethan", nine years old, Darren Bryce, and Keneth Brent, five years old, father, Ruben Guajardo Jr., grandfather, Amador De la Garza, brother, Ruben Guajardo, sisters, Jeanna Yvette Guajardo, and Isabel Guajardo, father-in-law, Michael Powell (Estela), mother-in-law, Deborah Vance (Terry), sisters in law, Michelle Powell (Richard Bell), and Joanna Clem (David), brother in law, Jeremy Wayne McKey (Toni), nephews, Denver Ridge, Shawn, Shane, John "JT", Jackson Wayne, and Jackson Reid, nieces, Ella Louise, and Emma June. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 13th, from 2-9pm at McCaleb Funeral Home, with an hour of sharing and prayer at 7 pm. Funeral services will be Tuesday, 12 pm, at McCaleb Funeral Home Chapel in Weslaco. Burial will follow at Texas Veteran's Cemetery in Mission. https://www.mccalebfuneralhome.com/obituary/268881/Marci-Powell/
