WESLACO - Marco Antonio Caltabiano, 85, passed away on Thursday, June 4th, at his home in Weslaco. Marco was born on the island of Sicily in 1929. He met the love of his life, Angela, when she was on her high school graduation trip on the beach. They married soon after in 1950. Marco immigrated to the United States to be with his bride in 1951 and they had their first daughter, Marci.
Marco was an honor guard at the Tomb of Vittorio Emmanuelle in Rome, Italy at the young age of 18. When he immigrated to the United States, they lived in Baltimore as he worked for the Immigration Department as a deportation officer. Marco was a hard worker and he gradually worked his way up until he was transferred to Progreso, TX where he would spend the rest of his career as the Port Director at the Progreso International Bridge. He retired in 1985 after 33 years of service with the INS.
Marco is preceded in death by his parents, Sebastiano and Anna Caltabiano and his wife, Angela Tomarchio Caltabiano. He is survived by his daughter Marci and son in law, Manuel Ponce, daughters Anna Caltabiano and Rita Caltabiano and her fiancé Daniel Carrillo, brothers, Salvatore (Enza) Caltabiano, Santo (Francine) Caltabiano, Pietro (Roz) Caltabiano, and Renato Caltabiano, and his sister, Rita (Bob) Cleveland and his cherished caretaker, Maité De Lara. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 5th, from 4 to 9 pm with a prayer service at 7pm. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McCaleb Funeral Home.
