WESLACO - Margaret Hyde, 82 went home to be with the Lord, now an angel of God’s on Wednesday, February 11th. Margaret graduated from Edinburg High School and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the University of Texas. Margarete married her high school sweetheart, Lee Hyde in 1955 then moved to Weslaco in 1961. Margaret proceeded to be active in the community. She was President of the PTA, Cub Scout Leader and served as Sunday School Teacher for First Baptist Church. She served on the American Cancer Society for twenty years, sponsor for Hidalgo County Cotillion for three years, member of PEO Chapter BW and a member of the Literacy Review Club. Margaret also served on the Chamber of Commerce’s Beautification Committee. In 1978 she was asked to serve on the general board of (then) Knapp Medical Methodist Hospital, 1979-189 she was elected to the executive committee of the board of trustees. In 1989, Margarete was chosen as Weslaco’s First Lady of the Year.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ross and Rema Carter and brother Richard Carter. She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Lee Hyde; four children: David Hyde, Beverly Terveen (Melvin), Martha Hernandez (Rob) and Stuart Hyde; seven grandchildren: Sydni Hyde, Mason Hyde, Ashley Terveen, Courtney Hance (Denver), Cameron Terveen (Brook), Marshall Hass and Carter Hass (Tiffany) and three great grandchildren, Avari Hass, truly and Trinity Terveen. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Margaret Hyde was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved to laugh and loved life. Margaret loved to play bridge with her special friends, also loved camping and traveling every year and being at South Padre Island.
The family wishes to give special thanks to Dr. S and his caring staff along with the wonderful caring nurses at John Knox Village Hospice who cared for her in her last couple of weeks.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2015 from 4:00pm – 9:00pm at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco. A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 13, 2015, 1:00pm at McCaleb Funeral Home, with Pastor Robert McAllen officiating the service. Interment to follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco located at 6705 Farm to Market 88, Weslaco, TX 78596.
Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons; Marshall Hass, Cameron Terveen, Carter Hass, Mason Hyde, Denver Hance and dear friends Lonnie Gegenheimer and Bo Ellis.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or charity of your choice.
