Margaret Jean (Peggy) Voiers Goode

WESLACO - Margaret Jean Goode, 85, passed away on Monday, August 24, 2015 in Weslaco.

Margaret Jean was born to Harry and Ella Jean (Tandy) Voiers in Carroll County, Kentucky on March 31st, 1917. She spend her school years in Madison, Indiana before moving to La Feria, Texas. Margaret Jean attended Southmost Junior College where she met her future husband, James Landrum Goode. They graduated from the University of Texas and married in 1940. Known to her friends as Peggy, Margaret Jean taught in La Feria for 39 years.

Upon retirement, Peggy had time to pursue her interest in traveling and genealogy and became a member of numerous lineage societies and served as a chapter and state officer. Peggy was a member of the La Feria United Methodist Church, Chi Omega, PEO, Colonial Dames XVII, Colonial Dames of America, Dames of the Court of Honor, Daughter of the American Colonists, Daughters of the American Revolution (48 years), Daughters of Founders and Patriots of America, Magna Charta Dames and Barons, Order of American of Armorial Ancestry, and Unites States Daughters of 1812 (chapter organizer). She moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma in 2007.

Peggy is survived by a son, Jimmy Goode (Sue) of McAllen, Texas and a daughter, Jeanne Love (Mike) of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Her six beloved grandchildren are James Goode (Stephanie), Polly Ley (Bede), Margaret Farnsworth (TJ), Michael Love (Courtney), Daniel Love (Autumn), and Frank Love (Ashley). Twelve great grandchildren brought joy and pride to “Amama”, Madeline, Isabelle, Benjamin and Beatrice Ley, Jack, Noah and Caroline Love, Isaac, Isabel and Harrison Love; Sienna Jeanne Love and T. Wyatt Farnsworth.

Peggy will return to La Feria to rest beside her mother and father.
