Margaret G Zaker

May 12, 1924 — December 10, 2016

Weslaco/Colorado- Today we say goodbye to Margaret Gallegos Zaker, 92, as she is home in heaven with my Dad, Edward John Zaker (the love of her life) celebrating the celestial banquet with our Savior Jesus Christ. Margaret was born at home on May 12, 1924 in rural Windsor, Colorado the fourth child of Margaret and William Gallegos. She said goodbye to her mother at 4 years of age, and grew up during the great depression in rural Colorado which made her the strong, independent beautiful woman that we all love. She and her 4 siblings: Gilbert, Florence, Cora and Tommy helped raise each other and played hard testing physics of life. Their house was on a lake and they played on the ice many days. One day it was too thin and they all went into the icy water, but stuck together and helped each other out. All their lives they continued to love and share with each other their families, children and always helped each other out. Their motto was LOVE ONE ANOTHER. She was a wonderful, loving, spiritual mother who guided her five children, William Lee, Margaret Marlene, Barbara Jean, Edward John and Michael Timothy thru life. Margaret graduated East High School. She was 17 years old for the bombing of Pearl Harbor, an event that plunged the United States into war. She was a secretary at Buckley Field in Colorado where she met my Dad, her true love. They were married in the Catholic Church in New Port Beach, California June 28, 1947. They raised their children with a strong love for God, saved to send them to Catholic school, the most important gift you can give your child. Margaret was a Special Education Bus driver when I was in high school, then she went back to secretarial work, and completed college bookkeeping while she worked and raised children. She continued working part-time until 81 years old then she reluctantly retired. She was active in the community as President of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW in Arlington Heights, Illinois, Women's Lydia's at All Saints Catholic Church. She loved God and prayed the rosary daily, she would not miss a rosary of EWTN. She loved riding the roller coaster at Lakeside Amusement Park in Denver, Colorado. She and her sisters would ride together and laugh outside the fun house. She moved to Texas at 89 years old, and was delighted to get on the plane telling everyone "I am moving to Texas, Yahoo"! Mom loved Texas, and was so very happy here, we really enjoyed all the celebrating of life, sharing meals, love, praying together and a good pie with ice cream. Thank you Mom! I will love you always and know that we will celebrate in heaven at the celestial banquet. Mom is preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and William Gallegos, her loving husband, Edward John Zaker, married 54 years, her oldest son, William Lee Zaker, and her brothers and sisters: Gilbert Gallegos, Florence Rosentrader, Cora Foster and Tommy Gallegos. She is survived by daughter, Marlene Zakrzewski and husband James Yaniglos, daughter, Barbara and husband Tommy Breighthaupt, son, Edward John Zaker and wife, Lisa, son Michael Timothy Zaker, granddaughters, Kelly Ragins and husband Glen, and their children Ethan, Aleksander and Sofie, Jessica Yaniglos, Alexandra Santiago and husband, Joubert and their son, Philip, Elea Giovanni and husband, Lorenzo and their son James, Alexa Zaker and Addie Zaker; grandsons: Joshua Zaker and Staci and their children, Daniel, John and Marian, Adam and wife Jaclyn and baby coming, numerous nieces and nephews from Chicago, California, Colorado, Arizona and Texas. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 14th, from 5-9pm, with a rosary at 7pm at McCaleb Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, December 15th at 10am, at St. Joan of Arc, with Father Francisco Solis officiating. Lunch will follow the mass at the home of Marlen and James.
