Margarita A. Hernandez

January 15, 1935 — March 21, 2023

Margarita A. Hernandez, lovingly known as Margie, passed away peacefully to be with the Lord on March 21, 2023. She was 88 years old and was the greatest example of love, compassion, and grace for her whole life. Margarita was born and raised in Weslaco, Texas and lived a joyous life; she was often surrounded by nature – plants, flowers, birds – and was a faithful Catholic and caring friend. She spent her career working at Williamson-Dickie Manufacturing Co for about 25 years until she retired. Additionally, she was a phenomenal cook, often receiving specific requests from her family for chicken and rice, chicken ala king, and calabaza con pollo.

She is preceded in death by her husband - Jesus C Hernandez, her parents – Manuel and Felipa Abrego, her younger brother – Manuel Abrego Jr., her son-in law – Gustavo Molina, and her first cousins. She was the last remaining first generation from the Abrego family tree.

Margarita was so very proud of her growing family and often looked forward to family visits, celebrations, and updated family photos. She is survived by her children - Ricardo A. and his wife Sylvia Hernandez, Rosalinda H. Molina, and Javier A. and his wife Irma Hernandez; her grandchildren - Mario A. and his wife Veronica Hernandez, Richard E. and his wife Christina Molina, Judith M and her husband Michael Maciel, and Marlissa G. Hernandez; her great grandchildren – Mia I. and Nicolas A. Hernandez; her sister in-law Violanda Abrego; her niece – Sonia and her husband Roy Leal; her nephew, Edward Abrego; and many extended grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, whom she adored: Andy, Priscilla, Kodi & Michael Molina; Mario, Veronica, Hunter, Victoria, & Derek Molina; Leanna Leal; Marc & Victoria Abrego; Kathryn, Cameron, & Emery Fitzwater; Heidi De Leon, Lillian, Camryn, & Madison Bravo, Logan Cantu; Eric & Kailey De Leon; Rita, Adrian & Giselle Limas; Aaron & AJ Garcia.

Scheduled services will take place at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco, Texas. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 24th from 1:00-9:00 pm (rosary to be held at 7:00 pm). The funeral mass will be held on Saturday, March 25th at 9:00 am at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, officiated by Father Francisco Solis. Burial will follow at Weslaco City Cemetery at 10:00 am.

We are so blessed with wonderful memories of the amazing lady Margie was. While we are sad that our time with her on earth has come to an end, we also celebrate her life and rejoice for the long-awaited reunion she is having with her family members in Heaven. Until we meet again… we love you forever mom, grandma, tia, friend.
