Margarita Rodriguez

November 13, 1928 — June 2, 2024

Weslaco/McAllen

McAllen/Weslaco-

Margarita Rodriguez, a strong and resilient woman, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2024, at her daughter's home in McAllen. She was born on November 13, 1928, in San Luis Potosi, Mexico to Inocencio and Candelaria (Ramirez) Silva.

Margarita met her soulmate, Amadeo while working at the Weslaco theatre. They were married and raised their children together in Weslaco.

Margarita, her husband, and their children worked for three decades as migrants, traveling up North to Michigan and Ohio half the year to provide for their family. Despite facing the untimely death of Amadeo Sr., Margarita continued to work tirelessly to support her children. Though she had no formal education, she possessed wisdom that transcended books. Margarita understood education's value and encouraged and ensured all her children had an academic foundation. Her dedication paid off as their children attended college, with many obtaining Bachelor's, Master's, and other degrees. Margarita, a woman of faith, also attended mass at San Martin de Porres with her family and ensured their religious sacraments were being made, especially their Holy Communion.

Margarita was a self-taught individual who knew how to stretch a dollar and make every penny count. Her frugality skills were remarkable, and she passed down the importance of financial responsibility to her children. Known for her loving and cheerful nature, Margarita was always ready with sound advice, a listening ear, and a caring heart without judgment. She had a zest for life and brightened the day of everyone she encountered.

In her leisure time, Margarita found solace in gardening. Her green thumb transformed her yard into a paradise filled with vibrant plants and blooming flowers. She would often delight her children by plucking fresh mangos from the trees she had nurtured with care. Traveling also brought immense joy to Margarita; she particularly cherished cruising and embarked on over a dozen voyages. Her adventurous spirit extended beyond cruises as she was ever-ready to explore new places at a moment's notice.

Even though Margarita worked, she considered herself a homemaker. She was the best cook, and all of her dishes were mouthwatering. Some of her specialties were tamales, sopa de pollo, sopa de res, menudo, homemade tortillas, carne guisada, fidelo, and bunuelos. Her meals were made with love, making them much more special for her family.

Margarita Rodriguez leaves a legacy of perseverance, love, and kindness that her surviving family members will forever cherish: her ten accomplished children and grandchildren whose hearts she touched profoundly.

Margarita is preceded in death by her parents, Inocencio and Candelaria Silva; her husband, Amadeo Rodriguez Sr.; her granddaughter, Pearla Rodriguez; her sons, Amadeo Rodriguez Jr., and Librado Rodriguez; and her siblings, Maria Silva, Rosario Silva, Sofia Silva, Jose Silva, and Antonio Silva.

She is survived by her children, Maria de los Angeles Escobar, Maricela Rodriguez (Ray Shearer), Elma Clinkscale, Overlin Rodriguez (Annie), Irasema Coody (Raymond), Raul Rodriguez (Sylvia), Macrina Martinez (Elizear "Lee" Ramos), Sandra Rodriguez, daughters-in-law, Lucy Rodriguez (Amadeo Jr.+) and Diana Rodriguez (Librado+); grandchildren, Jesse C.
