Maria De La Cerda, 87, passed away on April 9, 2025. A strong and dedicated woman with a beautiful smile, Maria was originally from Hualahuises, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. Her love for Cesar Chavez and his mission was profound, as she passionately advocated for farm workers' rights and stood by him during late-night protests, embodying compassion and commitment.
Maria's greatest joy came from her family, especially her grandchildren, who were always her top priority. Traveling to California to see them was a journey she embraced wholeheartedly; nothing could stop her from being with her loved ones. As a devoted mother to five children—Lisa, Mayte, Irma, Pablo, and Sandra—she instilled in them the values of hard work and dedication. With 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren, Maria's love knew no bounds. She enjoyed playing bingo, crafting, and tending to her garden, finding joy in its beauty. Her faith was also important, as she regularly attended Catholic Church services and embraced Christian teachings.
Maria was truly one of a kind—a hardworking and resilient woman whose legacy of love, strength, and unwavering commitment to her family will forever resonate in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on through her cherished family.
