Weslaco- Maria "Amelia" Guerrero, 85, passed away on Saturday, February 24th, 2024, at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco.
Amelia was born on May 1, 1938, in Mercedes, Texas, to Ramon and Vicentá Bautista. Her mother was from Mexico, and her father’s descendants were from Spain. She was one of eleven siblings and grew up in Weslaco. Amelia’s family started in agriculture, cultivating their land, and eventually ran a thriving business. Next, they opened a grocery store on FM1015, where the children worked.
Amelia attended St. Joan of Arc Catholic School in elementary and graduated from Weslaco High School.
Amelia was a vibrant and youthful soul - who was the living embodiment of unconditional love. She enjoyed spending time with her loved ones and cracking any jokes she could remember to watch people laugh. In her spare time, she loved trying to beat her personal timing records for completing a puzzle and always had a crossword puzzle book & pen handy.
Amelia is preceded in death by her loving parents, Ramon and Vicentá Bautista; her son and daughter-in-law, Margarito and Angelica Guerrero; her siblings Antonio Bautista (Carmen), Miguel Bautista (Rafaela), Gregorio Bautista (Julia), Vicente Bautista (Eusebia), Ramon Bautista, Olivia Medrano (Maximino), Jesusa Villapando (Manuel), and Maria Guadalupe Bautista Vela (Jose).
