Maria Guadalupe Jasso

December 16, 1944 — April 28, 2019

Weslaco- Maria Guadalupe Jasso, 74, went to be with her Lord and Savior and her beloved husband of 43 years Jose Baldemar Jasso on Sunday, April 28, 2019. She was born on December 16, 1944, to Benigno Garza Zamora and Cornelia Reyes de Garza. Maria grew up with many siblings on a ranch in Rio Bravo, Tamaulipas, where she learned the value of a hard day's work and the love of a big family She married Jose Baldemar Jasso in September of 1965. They started their family and would raise eight children together. Jose and her moved to Weslaco in 1977, and they began farming for a living all the while Maria took care of their beautiful children. Maria was a strong and loving mother, stern when she needed to be, but always caring and compassionate. She was an avid gardener and spent countless hours working and caring for her flowers and plants. She loved to crochet and enjoyed drawing. Maria loved her cats, especially her cat papi welo. She will mostly be remembered by her statement hair flower piece and of course her fabulous cooking, which the children and grandchildren will all miss. She made the best traditional Mexican dishes and was a wonderful homemaker. Maria went to work for many years after her children were grown. Many will remember her from her years at McManus produce. Maria is preceded in death by her parents, Benigno Garza Zamora and Cornelia Reyes de Garza, her loving husband, Jose Jasso, brothers, Juan, Pablo, and Gilberto Garza, sisters, Concepcion, and Dinorah Garza. She is survived by her children, Aida Mier of Weslaco, Joel B. Jasso of Weslaco, Jose Luis Jasso (Patricia) of Heyburn, Idaho, Berta "Bert" Jasso (Robert) of Weslaco, Olga Lydia Rebolledo (Mario) of Laredo, Sonia Jasso (Adrian) of Weslaco, Israel Jasso (Veronica) of Rupert, Idaho, and Eleazar Jasso of Weslaco, siblings, Irma Ortiz of Donna, Antonio Garza of Weslaco, Toribio Garza of Weslaco, Petra Garza of Rio Bravo, Esperanza Montelongo (Rogelio) of Progreso, Juanita "Juani" Barco (Jose) of Houston, Soledad Rodriguez of Progreso, and Rosalva Garza of Progreso, eighteen grandchildren, three Great grandkids and numerous nephews and nieces. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 1st, 2019, from 10am-9pm, with a rosary at 7pm at McCaleb Funeral Home chapel. Mass will be held on Thursday, May 2nd, 2019, 10 am, at St. Joan Catholic Church in Weslaco. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco.
