Maria "Theresa" Mire passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 17, 2024. Theresa was born on April 16, 1938, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, to Augustus and Marina (Moya) Wilson.
When Theresa was twelve, the family moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico. Theresa attended Catholic High School. Her Catholic upbringing proved to be an integral part of her story.
In 1962, Theresa met Marvin F. Mire in Albuquerque, and they were married on August 3, 1963. Theresa and Marvin moved to the warmer climate of Alamo, Texas, where Marvin grew up in 1966. After the floods of Hurricane Beulah, the Mire family moved to Weslaco, where they raised three boys and made their life-long home.
Theresa was a great homemaker, while Marvin worked as an Optician at Mid Valley Optical. She kept the house in order and was a loving, devoted wife and great mom. Her love for cooking brought the Mire family together in the kitchen, creating cherished memories that will be treasured forever. Special occasions like Thanksgiving, New Year's celebrations, and birthdays were made magical by Theresa's loving touch.
She continued to uphold her faith throughout her life. The Mire family regularly attended St. Pius X Catholic Church for the next fifty-seven years. All three boys were given their sacraments and taught to follow Christ. Theresa's dedication to her spiritual community extended to participating in various prayer groups, supporting festivals and retreats, and tirelessly serving the congregation's needs.
In addition to her devotion to her family and faith, Theresa found joy in being a part of the Daughters of the Confederacy of Texas for many years. In 1985, Theresa was diagnosed with breast cancer and survived. Theresa advocated for the American Cancer Society for the rest of her life. She participated and volunteered for the Mid Valley Relay for Life for nearly three decades.
Theresa is preceded in death by her parents, Augustus and Marina Wilson, and her special cousin, Sylvia.
She is survived by her loving husband of sixty years, Marvin Mire; her sons, Matt Mire (Liza), Mitch Mire, and Marty Mire; grandchildren, Faith Anne Mire, Gregory Mire (Emma), Morgan Mire (Valeria), and Noah Mire; great-grandchild, Josef Theodore Mire, special cousins that were like sisters, Christina, Edwina, Camila, Marie, and Ana.
Visitation will be Thursday, February 22, from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with a Holy Rosary at 6:00 PM. Mass will be held on February 23 at St. Pius X Catholic Church at 1:00 PM, followed by burial at Sacred Park Cemetery, 12506 N Mile 2 W Mercedes, Texas.
