Maria Eva Vega

Mercedes-Maria Eva Vega, 88, went to her final resting place on Wednesday morning, December 17th, 2015. She was raised by her mom, Guadalupe, who has passed away.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Baldemar Vega and her brother Elojio Leal. Maria is survived by her children, San Juanita Hernandez (Isreal) of San Antonio, Rosa M. Munoz (Reynaldo) of Weslaco, Jose L Vega of Florida, Juan M Vega (May) of New Mexico, Baldemar Vega of Mercedes, Guadalupe Vega (Irene) of Indiana, Jessica Turrubiartez (Eddie) of Mercedes, and Erasmo Vega (Maria) of Indiana. She is also survived by her sister in laws treated her as their own, they are all still surviving, Elida Flores and family of Alamo, Tina Soto of Mercedes, Olivia Rizo and family of Mercedes, and Estella Alejandro and family of Weslaco and Elva Pedroza of Chicago. She had 22 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren and counting, and numerous nephews and neices.

Maria's life achievement was raising her eight children. She was a great care giver and role model. When she had a rare break, she helped run the local laundromat. She was a great cook and she had a great sense of humor as you can tell by her photo. She loved to laugh and make jokes. She also loved music and dancing. She enjoyed reading and movies. Her favorite was Lifetime. She also was a FAST driver, earning her the nickname of "hot-rod mamma". She could get you wherever you needed to go in rocket time.

She was the best mom any eight kids could ever ask for!

Visitation will be held today, December 17th from 4-9pm at McCaleb Funeral Home with a rosary at 7pm. Funeral mass will be celebrated December 18th at St. Joan of Arc with cremation to take place at a later date.
