Marlene Olivia Volz Vos, age 87, entered eternal rest on February 27, 2025 in Weslaco, Texas. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and cherished community member.
Marlene was born on November 16, 1937 in McAllen, TX to Alphons (Al) Francis Volz and Olivia Katherine Massey. She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Russell Vos, parents, and her four older siblings; Marvin Volz, Millicent Volz Van Deventer, Sister Mary Florence Volz CDP, and Richard (Dick) Volz. Her five loving children survive Marlene; Richard Vos (Maureen) and James Vos, both from Weslaco, TX, Carl Vos (Theresa) of Cypress, TX, Duane Vos (Carrie) of Katy, TX, and Regina Vos Knight (Kent) of Georgetown, TX. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren; Kalen Vos (Kelsie), Natalie Leeson (Trevor), Megan Vos, Kristin Whiteley (Austin), Quinlan Vos, Amanda Velicka (Tanner), Peyton Vos, Rachel Knight, Ryan Vos, Collin Vos, Kate Vos, Emily Vos, Blake Vos, and three great grandchildren; Justin, Logan, and Luke.
Marlene attended Mission schools, including St Paul's Catholic Elementary and Mission High School, graduating in 1956. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Our Lady of the Lake College in 1960. That same year, on November 5th, she married the love of her life, Theodore Russell Vos, and together they shared 52 wonderful years filled with love, faith, and family.
A talented and dedicated musician, Marlene served as the organist at St Pius X Catholic Church in Weslaco for over 45 years, enriching countless worship services with her music. She was also actively involved in the Weslaco Band Boosters, always supporting young musicians. Additionally, she assisted choir directors at Weslaco High and Junior High. From 1985 to 2010, she taught piano lessons in her home studio, inspiring generations of students with her passion for music.
Beyond her musical contributions, Marlene was a proud Texas Farm Bureau member and Texas Agri-Women member. She enjoyed the simple joys of life, especially gathering with friends and family. She loved playing card games and dominoes with her friends and grandchildren, cherishing the laughter and memories made around the table.
Marlene's warmth, generosity, and unwavering dedication to her faith, family, and music will forever be remembered by those who knew and loved her.
Her legacy of love and music will live on in the hearts of all blessed to know her.
Visitation for Marlene will be on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at McCaleb Funeral Home from 4-9 pm, with a rosary at 7 pm. Marlene's life will be celebrated on Friday, March 7, 2025, with a funeral mass at St. Pius X Catholic Church at 10 am. Following mass, Marlene will be laid to rest at Highland Memorial Park.
