WESLACO - Martha "Kay" Andersen Ross, 73, passed away on Tuesday, November 14, 2017, at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco. She was born on July 7th, 1944 in Monterrey, California to Odell and Martha Andersen. When she was only a baby, the family returned to Weslaco, where she spent most of her life. She played clarinet in the Weslaco High School Green and Gold Band and graduated from Weslaco High School in 1962, She was in Girl Scouts and a founding member of Air Scouts. She attended college at Texas Western in El Paso and Pan American in Edinburg. She was a graduate of the LVN nursing program at Knapp Hospital Kay met and married her first husband Louis Armijo in El Paso. He joined the Air Force. They traveled frequently and lived in Japan and Italy for a time. They were in Germany when their son Mike was born. After Kay's divorce, she returned home to Weslaco. Kay became a nurse and worked at Knapp Medical Center. She met Mario Ross and they enjoyed 37 years of marriage. She loved her pets and always had a dog, cat and birds around the house. She and Mario loved to stay around town and frequent their local favorite restaurants and flea markets. Kay was an 8th generation Texan. She attended the First Methodist Church as a child and then St. Pius X Catholic Church later in life. She is preceded in death by her parents, Odell and Martha Andersen, and a brother who died at birth. She is survived by her husband Mario of 37 years; her son, Mike Armijo of Round Rock, Texas and her sister, Pat Naiser of Kyle, Texas. A Mass was said for Kay at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Pius X Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the March of Dimes. A memorial mass will be held on Friday, November 17th at 2pm at St Pius X Catholic Church in Weslaco.
