Weslaco-
Martin Rendon, born March 29, 1940, in Edcouch, Texas, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2025, at his home in Weslaco. Martin was a devoted family man known for his generous spirit and strong work ethic. His roles as a loving husband, a dedicated father, and a steadfast provider defined his life. He embodied resilience and commitment, traits he held dear and imparted to his family.
Martin's educational journey was interrupted by the need to earn a living. As soon as he was old enough to drive (which for Martin was about thirteen), he began his career as a truck driver. This decision marked the beginning of a lifelong dedication to hard work. For many years, Martin drove trucks part-time while contributing to his family’s needs as a migrant worker, particularly during their travels up north. While working in Hereford, Texas, he met Eva Rodriguez, who would become his beloved wife. They were married on April 25, 1965, a cherished union that lasted throughout his life.
Over the years, Martin became known for his entrepreneurial spirit. Although Martin’s formal education was interrupted, he was always a student. He balanced multiple jobs, including managing a demolition company, and took pride in using his skills and tools to support his family. His commitment to providing extended beyond his immediate family, as he often assisted his parents and siblings during times of need.
Martin's love for his family was evident in how he celebrated life. He found joy in Sunday barbecues with family and friends, cultivating a sense of love for family get-togethers that many will remember fondly.
He never came empty-handed. He always brought watermelon, melon, oranges, or sweet bread. His passion for learning was lifelong. Martin enjoyed engaging with history and the simple pleasure of reading the newspaper and stopping at historical markers when traveling. Working on cars also brought him much joy and satisfaction.
Despite a life filled with hard work, Martin remained warm, friendly, and approachable. His kind-hearted nature and generous spirit left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. His proudest accomplishments were undoubtedly his family and friends, who will continue to honor his memory through the relationships he nurtured.
Martin never forgot his roots in Edcouch. Even though he and Eva raised their children in Weslaco, he was still a loyal “Yellow Jacket.”
Martin was preceded in death by his parents, Gilberto and Elida (Rivas) Rendon, brother Rene Rendon, and Sisters Lydia Garcia and Yolanda Reyes.
He is survived by his loving wife, Eva Rodriguez Rendon; son, Martin Rendon Jr. (Criselda); daughters, Eva R. Puente (Pedro Jr.), Lorraine Martinez (Jose), Emma Gonzalez (Eliberto), Joann Rodriguez (Jesus); grandchildren, Martin III, Dustin Harley, and Megan Rendon, Perla, Pedro III, and Paige Puente, Brittny, Curtis, and Joseph Anthony Martinez, Eliberto III, Peter, Antonio Cruz, Joshua Lee, and Julius Angel Gonzalez, Kimberly, Bernice and Martin Rodriguez.
Martin's legacy of love and dedication will live on in the hearts of those who loved him: his dear wife and their children. As family and friends gather to celebrate his remarkable life, they will remember him as a man who was not only a great provider but also a beacon of generosity and love.
Great-grandchildren include Eliberto IV, Braxton, Bryson, and Emery Gonzalez, along with a surviving brother, Ruben Rendon, and many cherished nieces and nephews.
