Donna/McAllen-“The greatest, sweetest man that ever lived” Marvin Lee Payne was born March 23, 1932 and passed away Thursday, November 13th, 2014 at the age of 82. He was the son of the late Bill and Beulah Payne. He was born in Straford, Oklahoma where he lived his early years. He moved to Donna, TX at the age of 17, returned to Oklahoma for 2 years and returned to Donna. He spent the last two remaining years in McAllen, TX.
Marvin is survived by his devoted wife Marilyn, his son Dennis Lee (Debbie), his daughter Krystal Estelle and his step-daughters Terri Lynn Lewis (Eric) and Robyn Dale Coffey, his grandson Derek Lee (Alana), his granddaughter Olivia Lee and great granddaughters Julie Nicole and Aubrey Elaine, his sister Evelyn Darlene (Tommy), brother William Preston (Janet) and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death was his sister Louis Loraine (Tandy).
Marvin was employed by Southwestern Bell, later known as AT&T from the age of 18 until his retirement in 1990. He was always proud and happy to have been associated with this company and all the many friends he made there and throughout his life.
Marvin was a dedicated Christian man, a member of the Church of Christ and was known for his beautiful voice and quartet he organized and sang at the Weslaco Lions Club benefit for many years. He shared his voice with many friends during their time of bereavement.
He had a special place in his heart for Valley Christian Heritage School in Alamo, TX where he served on their Board of Directors for many years.
He was always very proud of his children and their accomplishments. He will be dearly missed by his wife Marilyn as the “love of her life”.
The family will be receiving friends for fellowship and viewing on Monday, November 17th, from 5 to 8pm with a Funeral on Tuesday, November 18th at 2:00pm, both at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco, TX. Arrangements are under the direction of McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco.
