WESLACO - On November 18th, 2018 Mary Louise Allen, age 62, passed away peacefully at her home in Weslaco, Texas. Mary Lou was born on June 30th, 1956 in Mercedes, Texas to the late Paul and Beatrice Allen. She graduated from Weslaco High School in 1974 and attended Pan American University where she earned her degree in Special Education. Mary Lou enriched the lives of many students (and parents) that she taught throughout the years in Mercedes ISD. Leading a very simple life, Mary Lou devoted her time to God, family, community, and school. She was a very giving, loving, and kind person. She dedicated many years to the Weslaco Jaycees as the first female to join the organization, paving the way for many others to follow. Mary Lou loved teaching and was an advocate for many of her students and families. After retiring from education in 2008, you could find Mary Lou volunteering at Saint Pius X Catholic Church or spending time with her family. Mary Lou is survived by her brothers, John (Ellen) Allen, David (Belinda) Allen, and sister-in-law, Sharon Allen. She leaves behind 4 nieces, Michelle, Kristen, Jessica (George) and Samantha (Kevin) as well as a great-niece, Olivia, and great-nephews, Michael, Jonah, and William. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Beatrice Allen, her brother Noble Allen, and stillborn brother Andrew Allen. Pallbearers will be Monse Montalvo, Mickey Pedraza, Kevin Hearn, George Handley III, David King, and Ruben Alejandro. Visitation will begin at 10 am on Tuesday, November 20th at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco followed by a Rosary at 7 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, November 21st at Saint Pius X Catholic Church in Weslaco. We will miss Mary Lou's laughter, her love, her silliness, and her bright spirit. We have a true guardian angel watching over us. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you donate to a charity of your choice in her name.
