BOERNE, TX - Mary Elizabeth (Meyers, Russell) Tompkins permanently relocated from Boerne, TX to 2018 Main Street, Heaven, on March 20, 2018. She has been looking forward to meeting Jesus, umm, and Elvis, for a lifetime. Born in Weslaco, TX in 1941, Mary Elizabeth (77) grew up on a small farm and excelled in her academic studies, graduating 9th in the Weslaco High School Class of 1959. She served as editor for the Weslaco High Life, won the Lion's Club Journalism Award, as well as served in F.H.A, Y-Teens, and Pep Squad. She was also a finalist in the Miss Weslaco Queen's Contest. Though she lived in Weslaco and McAllen for most of her life, Mary Elizabeth lived in Naples, FL and Boerne, TX after she married Chris Tompkins in 2005. Mary Elizabeth was a devoted mother to her three children with William Boles Russell (Jay, Roy & LeeAnn) and a loving "Nana" to her four grandchildren (Hannah, Austin, Bradley & Kyle). Mary Elizabeth also had a passion for reading books that spanned many diverse genres from science fiction to romance and biographies. She was an exceptional writer and a highly-skilled Executive Assistant. She graduated from McAllen Business College in 1962. Mary Elizabeth was awarded for her 13 years of dedication and loyal service from 1982-1995 at Rio Grande Regional Hospital and won the Jaguar Excellence Award which recognized her professional excellence at South Texas Community College in 2004. She was also an active member of the congregation and choirs at the First Christian Church, Weslaco, TX and First Baptist Church, McAllen, TX for many years. Mary Elizabeth was a lifelong admirer of Elvis Presley and was thrilled when "he" performed her wedding ceremony to Chris Tompkins in Las Vegas. She also loved traveling to see beautiful places she had only dreamed of visiting, including the Elvis Presley Estate in Memphis, many Broadway shows in New York, Ice Skating at the Salt Lake City Olympics, Alaska and the Caribbean on beautiful cruise ships, historical museums in Washington, DC, and her fabulous 70th birthday trip to Rome and Florence, Italy. Mary Elizabeth was proceeded in death by her beloved parents Marvin and Lura Meyers, brothers Bobby Meyers and Jerry Meyers (Brenda), and William Boles Russell. She is survived by her husband Chris Thompkins, sister Sandra Davis (Bert), children Jay Russell (Michelle), Roy Russell (Tracy), LeeAnn Farris (Emmy), and grandchildren, Hannah Farris, Austin Farris, Bradley Russell and Kyle Farris, stepsons Stephan Tompkins (Debbie), Keith Tompkins (Angela), and step-grandchildren David Tompkins, Chris Tompkins, Tony Tompkins and Nick Tompkins. The family will greet friends on Friday, March 23 from 4pm to 8pm and the celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, March 24, at 10am at McCaleb Funeral Home, 900 West 4thSt., Weslaco, TX. Burial will Immediately follow at Highland Memorial Park Cemetery in Weslaco. All family and friends are invited to attend.
