Duluth/Weslaco-Maryen Brotherton, 88, passed away to be with her Lord on Saturday, May 26th, 2018 at Knapp Medical Center. Maryen was born on December 9, 1929 to Ogden and Ethel Eckbeck in Duluth, MN. She was the youngest of four children, two older brothers, Donald and Gene, and a sister, Dorothy. Maryen was raised in Finland, MN, where she graduated from Central High School. She met her future husband, Harold Brotherton, when she was a teenager and they were married shortly after high school. They raised their four children, Beverly, Lee, Lu Ann, and Larry, in Duluth, MN. Maryen was a very hard worker. She worked full time while raising her children. She had many jobs and eventually retired Blue Cross Blue Shield as a claims adjuster. Harold retired after 43 years with United Vanlines and the two of them purchased a motor home and began traveling all over the United States, spending winters in Weslaco. Maryen was a very talented artist and loved to draw and paint. She enjoyed being outdoors and she and Harold spent a lot of time fishing and cross-country skiing. She is preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 61 years, Harold, her daughter, Beverly Carl, granddaughter, Stacy Carl, brothers, Donald and Ugene Eckbeck, sister, Dorothy Betts. Maryen is survived by her sons, Lee Brotherton of Weslaco, TX, Larry Brotherton (Jill) of Aliso Viejo, CA daughter, Lu Ann Martin of Apache Junction, Arizona, six grandchildren, Jodi Zukowski, Thomas Henry, James Henry, Kate Harsh, Phillip Brotherton , Melissa McKinley, five great-grandchildren, Carissa and Stacie Lynn and Alexis and Alea and Harper., and one great-great grandchild, Carson. Mom will be in our hearts and memories for ever. She will always be remembered for her sense of humor, big smile and eternal optimism. She kept hearts warm and tummies full.
