WESLACO - Max W. Henry of Weslaco, TX formerly of Gilman, IL died on Friday, November 7th at 1:24am at McAllen Medical Center.
Max was born on December 8, 1936 in Onarga, IL to William M. Henry and Avorilla Roper Henry. He spent his childhood in Onarga and graduated from Onaraga High School in 1955. He worked at Henkel Corporation and retired in 1998. On April 16, 1960 he married Teona Hoogstraat who survives. Also surviving are daughter Tena (Rich) Leverett of McDonough, GA and son Marion (Karen) Henry of Batavia, IL. Four grandchildren, Collin and Kristina Leverett and Sarah and Nathan Henry all of whom loved spending time with him and had fond memories of riding roller coasters and going on runs with him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Dempsey and four sisters, Betty Harris, Carol McGuire, Alice Dohman and Shirley Henry.
Max enjoyed spending time with his wife in retirement in South Texas, watching NASCAR and volunteering at the Marine Military Academy Museum at the Iwo Jima Monument in Harlingen, TX. He enjoyed visiting with the visitors and telling them about the Monument and school.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 14th, 2014 at the Ranchero Village Rec Hall at 2:00pm in Weslaco. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be sent in Max’s memory to the Marine Military Academy Museum at 320 Iwo Jima Blvd, Harlingen, TX 78550, attention Gloria Boling.
He was a great Husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed.
