WESLACO — Weslaco-Ninfa Villarreal, 68, passed away on Thursday, October 22nd, peacefully at her home, surrounded by family. Ninfa is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Jose, 10 children, Juan (Laura) Villarreal, Ricardo (Sylvia) Villarreal, Nora Elia (Jose Juan) Villarreal-Lopez, Diana Elizabeth (Paul) Villarreal-Guerra, Osvaldo Aaron (Ruby) Villarreal, Raul Sergio (Lulu) Villarreal , Kimberly (Alejandro Zavala) Villarreal, Cynthia Teresita (Sergio Martinez) Villarreal, Daniel (Karin) Villarreal, and Eduardo (Sandy) Villarreal, 22 grandchildren and 1 great grandson, a sister and one brother, 5 step brothers and 4 step sisters and many nephews and nieces. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Nancy Villarreal, parents, Lico and Bessie Landeros Garcia.

Ninfa was born in Valle Hermosa, Mexico. Ninfa met Jose Villarreal in Hoopeston, Illinois in 1966 as they were both migrant workers. They fell in love and married the following year at St. Pius Catholic Church in Weslaco where she will have mass. They would move to Baytown for Jose’s work and would have their first child, Juan in October of 1967. They raised their family for fifteen years and then returned to their hometown of Weslaco in 1982.

When we think about mom, there are lots of wonderful memories. She worked hard as a homemaker raising her family of 10 children and making sure we made good choices in life. She was always supportive and was there to catch us if we fell. She was the monarch of the family disciplinarian when she had to as Jose’s responsibility was providing for the family, which would include long hours of work and travel. She loved her lawn and garden…especially her rose’s. She loved listening to all types of music and loved to dance, something she enjoyed doing more of with our father after he retired, with close friends. The kids fondly recall her cooking with the music playing in the background. She was a shopper and loved finding good deals at the “pulga” or whenever she would go out and shop for her family. There is not enough words to say on how much she loved her family and the extreme sacrifice and measures she would go to ensure her family came first. Her children live today by her example…We love you Mom.
