McAllen - Nora Ramos, a dedicated teacher and beloved member of the Weslaco community, passed away on January 21, 2024, at DHR Edinburg. She was born on May 9, 1959, in Weslaco, Texas, to Ramiro and Margarita (Garcia) Perez. After earning her GED from Weslaco High School, Nora earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education from the University of Texas-Pan American. She and Jose were blessed with four children, and Nora was able to pursue a full-time career while being a great mom and homemaker. Whether it was having breakfast with her eldest son, Joey or having a BBQ at home with family, music and food is how she enjoyed bonding with the family.
Nora loved listening to music. Her kids have fond memories of their mom taking them cruising the streets, sometimes admiring Christmas lights, but always listening to Tejano or disco music.
Nora also loved sports, particularly rooting for the Dallas Cowboys. One of Nora's favorite pastimes was watching game shows and comedies like "The Golden Girls," which brought laughter into her life.
Nora’s passion was teaching, and she dedicated many years to the Weslaco and Donna Independent School Districts ending her career at Truman-Price Elementary. Nora's commitment to her students' success was unwavering, earning her the prestigious title of Teacher of the Year multiple times throughout her career. Nora's perfect attendance record demonstrated her dedication to her profession, while her after-hours tutoring demonstrated her love for empowering others through education.
Her proudest accomplishments in life were undoubtedly centered around family. Nora treasured every moment spent with her grandchildren, who brought immense joy. Her Catholic faith was also a source of profound inspiration and solace. Nora actively participated in the Divine Mercy and the Sacred Mysterious, finding comfort in her spirit.
