Norma L Rojas

February 26, 1966 — December 22, 2017

Weslaco, Norma L. Rojas, 51, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, December 22nd, 2017 after a 17 year battle with cancer. Norma was born on February 26, 1966, to Catarino and Cristina Ramos. She was raised in Weslaco with her four brothers and four sisters and attended Weslaco High School where she excelled in band and academics. Norma was born with a kind spirit and always had a natural desire to help others in need. It is no wonder that she decided to pursue a career in nursing. Norma worked as a candy striper at Knapp Medical school while in high school and also as she worked on her degree at Pan American University. She became a nurse and her career began at Knapp. As fate would have it, she was caring for Francisco Rojas's mom in 1989 and her extra care, compassion, and empathy caught his attention. They began their journey together and were married three years later. Francisco worked as a truck driver and Norma continued her career as a nurse, while they raised their three children, Antonia, Robert, and John. Norma went on to care for patients at Pace Home Health and at Renaissance Hospital in Edinburg. Norma would be remembered by many for her resilience, her strong work ethic and dedication to her field. She demonstrated this to her patients and their families. She was a loving and devoted wife. Norma and Francisco loved to dance and made it a point to go dancing as often as they could. They also loved to watch movies and just spend time together. Francisco was a truck driver, so he was away quite a bit and Norma will call and talk to him every morning. Norma was a loving and caring mother and demonstrated good character and moral values for her children to follow. She attended every track meet she could and she and Francisco were at Friday night lights for their dear Panthers most home games. She was also a cool mom who enjoyed watching football games, especially the Dallas Cowboys. In 2001, Norma was diagnosed with breast cancer. She continued to pray that God would allow her to see her youngest son graduate from high school and God granted her that wish. He graduated in May 2016 and later that year, in September, Norma would learn that her cancer had returned. She fought like a champ but was grateful for what God had given her. Norma will most be remembered for her devotion to Christ and her courage, strength, and character that she encouraged all to follow. She walked a straight and narrow path and did not judge those who did not, instead she just encouraged them to follow a path that would be pleasing to Christ. Norma's favorite hobby was praying and collecting angels She prayed all of the time, spending hour upon hour in prayer for others and her family. She encouraged all of her children and siblings to continue their education so that they would have a good job and to persevere and stay strong, no matter what life handed them. Even in her last days, Norma gave her family peace, she knew where she was going, but she wanted them to stay strong. Norma touched countless hearts and souls with her character and was the perfect nurse, daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a true earth angel, few and far between, but those that crossed her path were always blessed. Norma is preceded in death by her father and mother in law, Francisco Sr. and Antonia Rojas and her brother in law, Rogelio Rojas, and nephew JonPaul Villasana. She is survived by her parents, Catarino and Cristina Ramos, her loving husband of 25 years, Francisco Rojas Jr., her children, Antonia Rojas Hernandez (Arturo) of Weslaco, Robert and John Rojas of Weslaco, her grandchildren, Lucius and Herakles Hernandez, her siblings, Johnny Ramos (Marcie) of Weslaco, Jose Catarino Ramos Jr. (Liz) of Denver, CO, Jose Maria Ramos (Tamara Ligas) of Weslaco, Santiago Ramos (Julia) of Wichita, KS, Angie Ramos (Richard Alvarez) of Donna, Melisa Ramos, Teresa Ramos, and Michelle Ramos, all of Weslaco, her brothers in law, Juan Luis Rojas of Elsa, Victor Rojas (Rosalinda) of Donna, Juan Rojas (Elvia) of Alamo, sisters in law, Francisca Hernandez (Moses) of Weslaco, Margarita Matamoros (Andy), Criselda Trejo (Ricardo) of Monte Alto, Alma Delia Casarez (Juan) of LaFayette, LA, numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
