Adrian Bay, Michigan/ Weslaco- Odet Cristina Contreras, a remarkable soul who graced this world with her resilient spirit, passed away on January 28, 2025, at Adrian Bay Nursing Home. Born on May 11, 1952, in Progreso, Texas, Odet's journey through life was characterized by hard work, love, and an unwavering commitment to her family.

From her humble beginnings as a child laborer in the fields, Odet developed a strong work ethic to guide her throughout her life. She embraced every opportunity with open arms, transitioning from working in the fields to various roles in factories and schools—a jack of all trades. Her diverse career was a testament to her resilience and determination, which she navigated while never losing her infectious sense of humor.

Odet was not only defined by her work but also by her vibrant personality. Those who knew her would describe her as an amazing mother, full of "sauce," always armed with quick, witty comebacks that brought laughter to those around her. A brilliant and stubborn warrior, she approached life with an immense passion evident in everything she did. Odet was a force of nature—full of life and someone cherished deeply by everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Education held a special place in Odet's heart; she attended various schools but proudly graduated from Weslaco High School. This commitment to learning complemented her hobbies and interests, including arts and crafts, drawing, coloring, and baking. She was fond of trying new recipes and cherished traditions like making buñuelos, donuts, and hot chocolate for New Year's—a true celebration of family and love. Odet also loved playing bingo with friends and family and was a massive fan of “Betty Boop.” 

Among her many treasured accomplishments, Odet held her grandchildren closest to her heart. Being a grandmother brought her immense joy; her legacy will undoubtedly live on through them. The love she showered upon her family was boundless, and her nurturing spirit inspired those around her to embrace life's challenges with a smile.

Without a doubt, Odet’s faith was her greatest source of strength and purpose. She read her Bible with unwavering dedication, setting a powerful example of love, kindness, grace, and patience.

Odet was preceded in death by her parents, Baldomero and Concepcíon Zamaron, who raised her; her biological parents, Hilario and Rosalia (Sauceda) Sustaita; her twin sister, Virginia, her granddaughter, Cristina Zambrano; and her siblings, Maria de los Angeles Rodriguez, Baldomero Zamarron Jr., Socorro Zamarron, Felix Zamarron, Eleazar Zamarron, Ludvina “Ludy” Veliz, Elva Zamarron Gamez, and Mary Sustaita. 

She is survived by her children, Agustin Zambrano Jr. (Flor), Trenidad Zambrano, Efrain Zambrano (Maribel), Victoria Contreras (Juan); siblings, Rosario “Cachi” Gonzalez, Eufemia Martinez, Oscar Zamarron, Agapito Sustaita, Frank Sustaita, Gene Sustaita, Jesse Sustaita, Joe Sustaita, Juan Sustaita and Terry Sustaita; grandchildren, Jessie, Agustin III, Xavier, Emily, Trenidad Jr., Steven, Aaron, Victoria, Hosteen-Nez, Tiffany, Baldomero, Zacharias, Destiny, Efrain Jr., Calista, Eliza, Sebastian, Angel, Israel, and Cristina, great-grandchildren, Joycelynn, Xavier “LeRoy”, Jayne, Aria, Caliana, Kalissa, Katalaya, Kaleah, Mateo, and Ezrah, and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Odet's visitation is scheduled for Monday, February 3, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM at McCaleb Funeral Home with a Holy Rosary at 7 pm. Mass will be celebrated at San Martin De Porres Catholic Church in Weslaco on Wednesday, February 4, 2025, at 10:00 AM. 

As we bid farewell to Odet Cristina Contreras, let us remember her spirit—her laughter echoing, her creativity sparking joy, and her love wrapping around us like a warm embrace. She was, without a doubt, one of the strongest persons we have ever known, and though she may be gone, her vibrant spirit will forever linger in our hearts.
