Mercedes-Omar Rivas Sr., 46, passed away on Tuesday, February 16th.
In the arms of his mother he lays at rest.
As the day he was born, till the day of his death.
Things went south, he found comfort in his mother, sisters, and brother.
Now on a day where he finds peace and quiet to be free in a surgery room, we find ourselves with questions of why he goes so soon.
He lived his life full at an early age, he was known to some as a brawler, a bowler, a gambling man at heart, yet here we gather when he found his happiness was to depart.
He would want for us to stay strong as he did, not shed a tear but instead stand together and remember him for the things that he did.
Omar, my uncle. Omar, a father to five. Omar the man who impacted all our lives.
He lived and loved, tough and still he loved.
Was a mentor with all his knowledge, passed it along when he spoke of his past with confidence.
Every time you fell ill and found yourself in a hospital bed, we did what we could and found most you knew present to wish you the best.
In our prayers you'll stay, our minds and our spirit.
You will never be forgotten, may you be forever protected, protect us in your journey, and let this be a farewell until the next visit.
He is survived by his mom, Juanita Rivas of Weslaco, his sons Omar Rivas Jr. (Alexandra) of Weslaco, Michael Rivas of Weslaco, and Fabian Rivas and his daughter, Mikayla Rivas of Edinburg, his brother, Francisco Rivas Jr, of El Paso, Texas, his sisters, Cecilia Rivas of Weslaco, Aida Rivas of Bakersfield, California, and Sandra Rivas of Bakersfield, California and numerous nephews and nieces.
He is preceded in death by his father, Francisco Rivas Sr and his daughter, Vanessa Rivas.
Omar worked as a manager at Church’s Fried Chicken for many years as well as American National Insurance as an insurance salesman. He also enjoyed playing cards with his friend. He was a golfer and also enjoyed bowling. He was also a huge football fan and loved the Houston Texans.
