Patricio Martinez

December 13, 1958 — September 10, 2021

Patricio C. Martinez, 62, of Mission, TX passed away on September 10th from cancer complications. On his final day, he was surrounded by his sons and daughters: Dulce, Marcelina, Patrick, Cruz, sister: Imelda Villareal, niece: Maria Elena, and life-long companion and ex-wife: Carmen Vega. Patricio showed strength and resilience while battling and wanted to spend as much time with his loved ones as possible.

Dad is originally from Reynosa, Tamaulipas; he was born on December 13, 1958 in a small ranch on the outskirts of the city to Ismael Martinez and Maria de Jesus Cardoza. He was one of the youngest of 9 siblings. Tragically, both his parents passed away by the time he was 9 years old. His oldest sister, Guadalupe (Lupita) Palacios, cared for the young children until their uncle, Luciano Cardoza and Licha Cardoza took my dad as their own son. At the age of 12, my dad started herding goats instead of attending school inorder to help his family out. No question about it, life at the ranch was tough, but my father was tougher.

As a teenager, he traveled to Houston, Corpus, and Dallas looking for work before coming back to Mexico where he met the love of his life and future wife, Maria del Carmen Vega. After a brief courtship, they were married on December 31, 1988 and a year later received their first born Dulce Lucero Martinez, followed 2 years later by Marcelina Esmeralda Martinez. Their first son, Patrick Isai Martinez, arrived in 1999 followed a year later by Cruz Angel Martinez.

My father later remarried to Elisa Cardoza in 2010 and had two beautiful children, Briahanna Patricia Martinez and Narciso (Natito) Ismael Martinez. They shared a home in Mission, TX and expanded their home to accommodate the growing family. Dad was always surrounded by his children who he loves more than anything else in the world. Dad loved hunting, fishing, being outdoors, helping others, and spending time with his family. He built a close bond with his two grandsons, Andres Antonio Noriega IV, and Alejandro Diego Noriega. He taught his grandchildren to respect the land and hunt only what you will eat. He channeled the ranch lifestyle in his home by always having chickens, ducks, and turkeys for the kids to chase. He encouraged his children and grandkids to interact with the livestock, the goats, sheep, and pigs - to be fearless.

My Dad was a man of all trades, ingenious and creative. He will be remembered as the noble, kind-hearted, giving man that he was.

He is survived by his children, Dulce Martinez (Andres) of Weslaco, Marcelina (Eduardo) of Pharr, Patrick Martinez (who passed away 10 days after his father, 09.20.21), Cruz Martinez, Brihanna and Narciso Martinez, siblings, Adelina Sepulveda, Guadalupe Palacios, Graciela Martinez, Imelda Martinez, Concepcíon Martinez, Maricela Martinez, San Juanita Martinez, and Federico Reyna.
