Mercedes- Petra Garcia, a beloved mom, grandma, and sister, passed away peacefully at her home in Mercedes, Texas. Born on September 9, 1937, in Harlingen, Texas, Petra touched the lives of many with her strength, care, selflessness, and nurturing nature.
Throughout her life, Petra found joy in gardening and tending to her beautiful rose garden. She also had a talent for crafting, particularly intricate bead baskets, and sewing clothes for children. Her passion for creating extended to the kitchen, where she delighted in making hot chocolate and buñuelos —a tradition that marked special occasions like entering the New Year or celebrating Thanksgiving.
Petra's dedication to her family was unparalleled. She raised six children with boundless love and devotion as a single mother. Despite her challenges, Petra always ensured her children were provided for and cherished. One of the highlights for her family every year was attending the famous RGV Livestock Show, thanks to Petra's careful saving throughout the year. Her commitment to creating memories and experiences for her loved ones will always be remembered.
Petra Garcia left a lasting impact on all who knew her. Her legacy of kindness, generosity, and strength will continue to inspire those whose lives she touched.
Petra is preceded in death by her parents, Encarnacion and Eduveges (Ramirez) Guerrero, and her sons, Roberto and Jose Luis Garcia.
Petra is survived by her children, Maria C. Hernandez (Leo), Rosa Cogburn, Cirilda Williams, and San Juana Ford, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
