Weslaco- Phronia Elizabeth Jones, 90, passed away on Saturday, March 24th, 2018 at Valley Grande Manor in Weslaco. She was born on September 16, 1927 to Noah Samuel Warner and Beula Bell Pinion in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The family soon moved to Houston, where Noah worked for Crown Zellerbach until retirement. Liz met her sweetheart, Harold, in Houston shortly after he had been drafted, while he was in military training before he shipped out. He was sent off to the war and they communicated by letters. When he came home, they were married immediately, because he didn't want her getting away and he was persistent about it! Harold followed in his father in laws career path, working for Crown Zellerbach. He and Liz had a son, Hal, and Harold made sure that Liz was able to be a homemaker, caring for their son full time. The family was transferred to San Antonio in 1952 and then to the valley in 1964. After Harold's retirement, with Liz's support, he was able to build a successful business, Rio Grande Container Company, while Liz continued to maintain the home. As a homemaker, she enjoyed sewing, cross-stitching, and ceramics. She was a member of Knapp Medical Auxillary, where she volunteered for years. She was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church for over 50 years and a member of the FBC Women on Mission group, where she participated in many mission outreach ministries. Liz loved playing bunco and especially cards with friends and family, and even enjoyed playing cards with her physical therapists at Valley Grande Nursing Home. She loved her weekly visits to the salon at JC Penney, with Connie, and was honored by the salon in the newspaper as one of their long time customers. Liz loved her family and spending time with family. Liz is preceded in death by her parents, Noah and Beula Warner, and her daughter in law, Hilma "Missy" Reed Jones. She is survived by her loving husband of over 70 years, her son, Hal Jones and his wife, Candis of Weslaco, grandchildren, Matthew Jones, Amie-Marie (Jorge) Ibarra, and Sarah Neal, and great-grandchild, Kay Ibarra, step grandchildren, , Kelley Stence, Amy Gonzalez, Denise Chapa, Doug Stence, step-great grandchildren, Trey Flores, Malcolm Gonzalez, Jamey Hinojosa, Grant Stence, Adillyn Stence, and Lane Stence.
