Weslaco- Rebecca Pena Ginez, 80, passed away December 8, 2013 in Weslaco. She was born April 7, 1933 in Cadereyta Jimenez, Nuevo Leon, Mexico to Juan and Bausilisa Pena. She was a lifelong member and lecturer at San Martin de Porres Catholic Church. She was very involved with the choir, ministry, la sociedad del altar and the parish board. For 18 years, Rebecca and her husband Frank owned and operated Ginez Dandy Mart in Weslaco.
Rebecca was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, aunt and grandmother. She will be remembered as a very loving and helpful person and will be missed by all.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Carlos Pena, Ruben Pena and Rolando Pena; and a sister, Isabel Gonzales. Survivors include her loving husband, Frank Ginez Sr.; one son, Frank Jr. (Melinda) Ginez; daughters, Sandy and Martha Ginez; and grandchildren, Randy Amador, Richie Amador, Frank Ginez III, Kyana Ginez, Michael Ginez and Joel Ginez. Also surviving are her sisters, Hortencia (Lewis) Kautz, Sulema (Martin) Martinez and Aurora (Manuel) Mata. “Have you hugged your mom today?”
Visitation will be held today, Tuesday, December 10, 2013 from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm, with a rosary at 7:00 pm at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at 2:00 pm at San Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Weslaco. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco.
