Refugio Munoz

Edcouch- Refugio Munoz, 76, passed away on Tuesday, November 8th, 2016. He was born in Monterrey, Mexico to Maria del Refugio Ortiz and Santiago Munoz. He was one of thirteen children. He and his wife came to the United States in 1980, where they would make their home in Edcouch, Texas. They had one daughter, Olga Lydia. Refugio would work hard to raise his family, often migrating up north to earn a living. He loved music and especially loved to play the harmonica. He also loved his plants and had a green thumb. He spent a lot of time outdoors caring for his yard. He was a fisherman and thoroughly enjoyed fishing when he had time. His true love and passion was for his grandchildren, Elizabeth, Perla Christina, and Cesar Omar. Refugio is preceded in death by his parents, and his sisters, Paulita Munoz, Juanita Munoz, Benita Munoz, Lupe Munoz, and Santos Munoz. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marina Garcia Munoz, his daughter, Olga Lydia de la Cruz (Marcelino Contreras), his grandchildren, Elizabeth de la Cruz (Edgar Aguilar), Perla Christina Cordova (Guillermo), and Cesar Omar de la Cruz (Giselle Marquez), his great-grandchildren, Lizbeth Aguilar, Alexandra Aguilar, Jackeline Aguilar, Edgar Aguilar Jr., Maine Cordova, Guillermo Cordova, Ethan Cordova, Samantha Cordova, and Kaytyln Cordova, and Aabrey de la Cruz, his sisters, Blanca Munoz and "Tila" Munoz, his brothers,Santiago Munoz Jr., Julian Munoz, Manuel Munoz, Eduardo Munoz, and Luis Munoz. A special note from his granddaughter, Elizabeth, "I love you grandpa, you will ALWAYS be remembered, now, Rest in Peace. Visitation will be on Thursday, November 10th, from 10am-9pm at McCaleb Chapel in Weslaco. A chapel service will be on Friday, November 11th, at 10am, at McCaleb Chapel, with interment following at Sacred Park Cemetery in Mercedes.
