Weslaco: Reynaldo “Rey” Garcia, 58, passed away on Thursday, October 27th, 2022, at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco. Reynaldo was born on January 6th, 1964, to Crispin and Mercedes (Ruiz) Garcia in Weslaco, Texas.
Reynaldo and his six siblings grew up in Donna, Texas. Reynaldo learned the value of work ethic as a young boy. Reynaldo’s parents expected their children to work as migrants as soon as possible. In high school, Rey played football for the Donna Redskins. He also took classes in welding and would ultimately choose this as a career.
Rey worked at HEB in Donna for many years and then in construction and automated gates.
Rey was an outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, baseball, and an excellent outdoor barbecue with friends. Rey was also, like most Texans, a Dallas Cowboys fan.
Rey was very generous and spent most weekends barbecuing or fundraising at the VFW or American Legion. During this time, he developed close friendships with our Winter Texans. Rey loved to dance, mingle, and listen to their stories. Eventually, he and his wife, Irene, traveled in the late spring and summer months to visit their Winter Texan friends who lived all over the United States. These road trips created priceless memories.
Rey is preceded in death by his father, Crispin Garcia, step-daughter, Roxie Mireles.
Rey is survived by his mom, Mercedes Garcia; wife, Irene Garcia; his son, Randy Garcia of Donna; daughter, Jacqueline Rae Garcia of Donna; siblings, Ninfa Perez (Joe), Crispin Garcia III, Eloisa Garza (Enrique), Criselda Garcia, Elida Garcia, and Eloy Garcia Sr. (Mari).
Visitation will be Monday, October 31st, 10 am-9 pm, with a rosary at 7 pm, at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco. Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 1st, 2022, at 10 am, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Weslaco, followed by burial at Sacred Park Cemetery in Mercedes.
Serving as pallbearers will be Randy Garcia, Rick Reyna, Crispin Garcia III, Eloy Garcia, Enrique Garza, and J.R. Garcia.
