Weslaco- Richard Henry Macke, 88, passed away on Sunday, March 24th, 2019 at Knapp Medical Center. He was born on April 28, 1930, to Arnold Macke and Anna Day Macke in Chicago, Illinois. Shortly after graduation, he joined the United States Airforce where he served our country the next twenty-two years. Richard earned the rank of E-8, a Senior Master Sergeant, and retired in 1970. After retirement, he went to work as an electrician for the Olin Chemical Company for the next eighteen years. Shortly after retiring from the Airforce, Richard met Gloria Eileen Skidmore; they spent the next forty-four years together. They moved to the Rio Grande Valley in 1991 where they spent the rest of their lives together at Snow to Sun RV Park in Weslaco. Richard was a very generous and humble man. He and Gloria were a great team, serving the local community together for the past twenty-eight years. Richard served as a volunteer at Knapp Medical Center, the Weslaco Chamber of Commerce, Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show, American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, Harvest Night, and Onion Fest, to name a few. Richard loved to play golf and was an avid reader. He was a Christian man, who loved Christ and his life was an example to all who knew him. Richard will be remembered by his faithfulness, loving, kind, compassionate, and generous personality. Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Anna Macke, brothers, Bob, Donald, Jim, and Tommy Macke, sisters, Pat Koranda, Rosemarie Johnson, and Annalee Verk. He is survived by his loving wife, partner, and best friend, Gloria Macke, daughters, Paula Morgan and Janet Macke of Weslaco, and grandsons, Richard Morgan (Morgan) and Christopher Nutting, and granddaughters, Tiffany Kott and Casandra McGuigan (Thomas), and nine great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 27th, 2019 at 10:30 am at Snow to Sun RV Park with Pastor Tom Shidler officiating.
