Richard L. Pollitt

Donna, TX/ Little America, Ill: Richard L. Pollit, 73, passed away on Wednesday, March 14, 2018. He was born on June 14, 1944, to Jesse C. and Mary L (Ward) Pollit. He had two sisters, Inez Babb and Maxine Smith, four stepchildren, seven step-grandchildren, and six step great-grandchildren. He and Sharon K. Walker were married on February 14, 1985. Mr. Pollitt served twenty-five years in the military, which included twelve years in the United States Marine Corps and thirteen years in the Illinois Air National Guard, retiring in 1987. He then retired in 1988 with twenty-five years of creditable service. He served in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, during the Cuban crisis. He was a Vietnam combat veteran with three tours, four years and three months of service in the country with the Marine Corps. Mr. Pollitt farmed several years in Elmwood, Ill and also served as a Hanna City, the Ill police officer for several years. He was the president and senior vice president of the Association of Civilian Technicians for thirteen years. He was also a commercial pilot and owned his own aircraft flying for the IDOR (Illinois Department of Revenue), and flying many realtors and auctioneers around the country. Mr. Pollit was a life member of the VFW post 1984 Canton, Il, American Legion Post 0017 Ipava, Ill, life member of the DAV (Disabled American Veterans), member of the BPOE #626 in Canton, Ill, life member of the NRA, life member of the ACT (Army Career Tracker). Mr. Pollit was an avid hunter, fisherman and all around sportsman. He was on many rile and pistol teams in the military, police department and civilian competitions, winning many awards. After retirement, he and his wife, Sharon, spent their winters in south Texas, Rio Grande Valley. They thrived as a team and were avid shufflers, winning many trophies. Richard and Sharon were able to travel to many countries, including most of Mexico, the Bahamas, and Jamaica, to name a few. They also enjoyed many cruises together. Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Mary Pollitt and his two sisters, Inez Babb and Maxine Smith. He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon K. Walker, his step-children and step-grandchildren.
