Robert William Ruggles Jr.

WESLACO - Robert William Ruggles, Jr., age 87, died on Monday, August 20th, 2018 at John Knox Village in Weslaco, Texas surrounded by his wife and family. Bob was born in Elmira, New York to the late Robert, Sr. & Ester Ruggles on March 16th, 1931. After graduating from Southside High School in Elmira, NY, Bob served his Country in the Navy during the Korean Conflict. Upon his return to New York, he continued his education eventually graduating with a Bachelor of Sciences Degree in Ceramic Engineering. While still in school in 1954, Bob met the one and only love of his life for 63 years, Marilyn Joan Williams. Bob and Marilyn wed on September 3rd, 1955 in Elmira, New York. Bob and Marilyn were blessed with 3 children Robert, III (preceded in death, 75'), Cathy and John & wife Jill Hagen Ruggles. They have also been truly blessed with 5 grandchildren, Chelsee & husband Josh Thomas, Garrett Mills, Reid & wife Hayley Held Ruggles, Jon Ross Ruggles and Jacob Ruggles. Our Lord has also provided them with the opportunity to experience the joy of 5 great-grandchildren, Bella (9), Porter (4) and Blakelee (2) Thomas and Noah (3) & Harper (2) Mills. Bob worked as an engineer and Sr. Manager for PPG Industries for nearly 35 years in Ford City, PA, Crestline, OH, Cumberland, MD and Wichita Falls, TX before his retirement in 1991. After their retirement, Bob and Marilyn purchased a motorhome and traveled the United States for 10 years always spending a good portion of the winter months at Victoria Palms in Donna, Texas. After settling down, they spent 10 years as full-time residents at Victoria Palms and another 7 years at John Knox Village in Weslaco, Texas. Bob was a true gentleman with a very kind soul. Over the 87 years, he was with us, he touched so many people and we are confident that he will continue to do the same as one of our Lord's finest Angels. Bob will be greatly missed by his family and friends, but we all take solace in knowing that he is now home. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August, 21st, 2018 at 3 PM at the John Knox Village Worship Chapel, 1300 S. Border Street, Weslaco, Texas, with Rev. Howard Bloomquist officiating. The Ruggles family would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the entire John Knox Village staff for all the love and caring support they have provided to Bob over the years.
