Weslaco- Rojelio "Roy" Nieto, a beloved member of the Weslaco community and a devoted family man, passed away on March 26, 2025, at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Brownsville, Texas, surrounded by his loving family. Born on January 27, 1962, at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco, Roy was one of eleven siblings, sharing a lifelong bond of love and camaraderie. His warmth, kindness, and unwavering dedication to his family and community will be deeply missed.
Roy had a lifelong passion for sports. As a young boy, he spent years playing Little League, developing both skill and sportsmanship. He became a standout athlete in high school, proudly wearing the Weslaco Panthers' colors on the football field before graduating in 1980. His dedication to sports reflected his approach to life—driven, enthusiastic, and committed. After high school, Roy answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the United States Army. With courage and dedication, he was stationed in Korea and Germany, exemplifying the same unwavering spirit that defined him both on and off the field.
After his military service, Roy built a successful career as a mechanic at Donalson Motors, where he worked for many years. Known for his expertise, dedication, and unwavering work ethic, he became a respected figure in the automotive community. Whether diagnosing a complex issue or fine-tuning an engine, Roy took immense pride in his craft, ensuring that every job was done precisely and carefully. His commitment to excellence and willingness to help others had a lasting impact on colleagues and customers.
Roy was a man who found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved unwinding with a cold beer in hand, surrounded by good company, while the timeless melodies of Creedence Clearwater Revival and The Eagles played in the background. Music was more than just a pastime for him—it was a soundtrack to the moments he cherished most. These small but meaningful traditions reflected his warm, easygoing nature and ability to find happiness in the little things.
A family man at heart, Roy deeply cherished his loved ones. More than just an uncle, he was a steadfast supporter and the biggest cheerleader for his nieces and nephews, celebrating their achievements, attending their games, and encouraging them every step of the way. His love was evident in how he showed up—not just in words, but in presence and actions. Whether offering advice, sharing a laugh, or simply being there, Roy’s unwavering devotion left a lasting imprint on the hearts of those he held dear.
Roy will be remembered for his kindness, quick wit, and deep love for his family and friends. His presence brought warmth and laughter to those around him, and his genuine care for others left a lasting impact. Though his passing leaves an undeniable void, his spirit will live on in the countless memories, stories, and moments of joy he shared with those fortunate enough to know him.
Rojelio is preceded in death by his parents, Isidoro Nieto Sr. and Maria Cruz, his brother, Ruben Nieto, and nephew, Siji Davila.
He is survived by his brothers, Isidoro (Melissa), Roman (Hortencia), Rick (Rosie), and Joe (Nora); sisters Janie, Josie, Susie, Cathy, and Lisa; twenty-five nieces and nephews; thirty-eight great-nieces and nephews; and eight great-great-nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Rojelio will take place on April 10, 2025, at McCaleb Funeral Home, located at 900 W 4th St, Weslaco, Texas, from 5-9 p.m., with a Holy Rosary at 7 p.m. A memorial mass will be celebrated on Friday, April 11, 2025, at 11 a.m., at San Martin de Porres Catholic Church, followed by interment of cremated remains at Sacred Park Cemetery in Mercedes.
