MCALLEN -Rolando Cardenas Campos was born on August 20, 1947 in Weslaco, Texas, to the late Blas Campos and Lucia Cardenas Campos. Rolando went to serve in the Glory of God our father on March 23, 2022 at his residence in McAllen.
He graduated from Weslaco High School in 1966, studied at Pan American College, and worked for HEB for over 35 years. Rolando was a loyal, dedicated, and very hard-working employee. He retired in 2010 in order to be able to spend more time with his grandchildren, William and Alyssa.
He married his high school sweetheart Maria Guadalupe (Pita) Rodriguez, on October 23, 1971, in Weslaco, TX. They celebrated their 50th wedding Anniversary in 2021. Rolando and his wife raised their two children with patience, discipline, humility, and laughter. He took his family on many memorable vacations throughout his life. His true joy was making memories with his family. Rolando was a devoted husband, father, and loving grandfather.
He was gentle, kind, and always had a smile that could light up a room. He always had time to answer questions or help someone in need. He will be dearly missed by his loved ones. His hobbies were playing golf, fishing, and traveling with his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents Blas Campos and Lucia Cardenas Campos and his brother Rene Campos.
Rolando is survived by his wife, Maria Guadalupe (Pita); his daughter Tricia Campos; his son Rolando Campos Jr. (Sandra Lisa), grandchildren William Rolando Esquivel and Alyssa Alejandra Esquivel and his brothers Roberto Campos (San Juanita “Janie”) and Roel Campos (Enedelia “Nellie”), numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 26 and Sunday, March 27 from 1pm-9pm with a 7pm rosary on Sunday at McCaleb Funeral Home. Funeral Mass is scheduled for Monday, March 28, 10am, at San Martin De Porres Catholic Church in Weslaco with burial to follow at Highland Memorial Park.
