Weslaco, TX- But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31 On the morning of Thursday, May 25, 2017, our beloved father, grandfather and brother, Ruben Zepeda, was called Home at the age of 70, where he was reunited once again with his honey, Janie. He was born December 28, 1946 to Pedro and Maria (Villarreal) Zepeda in Alamo, TX. During his early years, Ruben and Janie would work in the fields, and they would often take their older children to help. He would also haul caliche and grain. He travelled across the country, sometimes accompanied by Janie. His job as a truck driver allowed him to live in different places before settling in Weslaco and raising their children- Norma, Ruben Jr., Delia, Rolando, Rene, Roel, Rafael "Ralph", Angelica "Angie" and Veronica. He passed on his love of the road and passion for trucks to 3 of his sons, Rene, Roel and Rafael. He was not a man of many words but he was proud of his family. Ruben and Janie loved to dance. You could often find them at the Days Inn on a Friday or Saturday or the Catholic War Veterans. From the time the music would start, they could be found on the dance floor almost all night. They were always dressed to impress. He was always sharply dressed with his hat, vest, long sleeved shirt with the sleeves rolled up, starched jeans and shined ostrich boots and Janie, always in a black or white dress or pantsuit, with her hat, boots and her bling jewelry. They always got complements on how beautiful they danced and how well dressed they were. Afterwards, they'd pick up a Whataburger- a #1, cut it in half with an order of onion rings and a milkshake to share. On April 10, 2016, they celebrated 52 years of marriage. He also loved spending time with family and having barbeques. You could always find him outside, with the guys, sitting under the tree listening to old school music like Gary Hobbs, Los Chachos or Little Joe y la Familia reminiscing about pasttimes. He also loved spoiling his dog, Bingo and his parrot, Pepe. He always made sure Bingo was bathed everyday and he would make him plates of scraps left over from bbq's. Pepe was always taken outside during the day. He'd hang his cage on the tree so he could get air. His cage was always cleaned and Pepe always had fresh water and fruits or nuts to eat. At night, he would bring Pepe inside and put him in the spare room to sleep. This was Ruben's daily ritual. Ruben was also greeted in Heaven by his parents; a brother and sister; and 3 grandchildren. Along with his children and their spouses, he will also be missed by his 30 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren; 7 brothers and sisters, Rogelio, Aurora, Mary, Pedro Jr., Sylvia, Rodolfo and Armando; and numerous nieces and nephews. We take comfort in knowing our dad has been reunited with our mom. They were like two peas in a pod. They couldn't live without each other. We know wherever they are, they are happy, healthy and will continue to watch over us. Weep Not For Me Weep not for me though I have gone into that gentle night Grieve if you will, but not for long Upon my soul's sweet fight I am at peace, my soul's at rest There are no need for tears For with your love I was so blessed For all those many years There is no pain, I suffer not The fear is now all gone Put now these things out of your thoughts In your memory I live on Remember not my fight for breath Remember not the strife Please do not dwell upon my death But celebrate my life. - Unknown No local services will be held at this time.
