WESLACO - Sammy Lee Curry, 86, passed away on Saturday, August 11th. Sammy was born on August 31, 1931, to Samuel Curry and Grace Mitchell. He was 2nd of 4 boys and 2 girls. Sammy grew up and went to school in Donna, Tx where he married his wife Phyllis Wagner and raised their three children. Sammy worked as a service technician for Burroughs Corp. many years before changing careers and working with his brother Wendell Curry at McAllen Gold and Silver for over 30 years. Sammy was an avid football fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Donna Redskins. He was a "handyman" and was always ready to lend a hand repairing or working on projects for his friends/family or his church (First United Methodist Church of Donna, TX). He enjoyed whitewing hunting, going to Donna Redskins football games, playing dominoes or spending time with family and friends. Sammy had a personal relationship with the Lord and had a hunger to learn from the scriptures. He is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Grace Curry, his brothers Ronald, Steve, and his son Kevin. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Phyllis, his brother Wendell Curry (Penny), sisters DeNell Barnum (Larry), Karen Seiver (Harold), son Kim Curry (Janice) of Weslaco, daughter Keri Sandvig (Jimmy) of Boerne, and daughter-in-law Virginia Curry of Santa Rosa, grandchildren, Bryan Curry (Morgan), Melinda Lasater (Josh), Kevin Lee Curry (Julie), Melanie Coreas, Paul Curry (Amanda), Shelby Aman, and 12 great-grandchildren.
