Santiago Gonzalez

WESLACO - Santiago Gonzalez Sr., 88, passed away peacefully on the 20th of September 2016 in Weslaco, TX after a short illness. Mr. Gonzalez was born on June 19th, 1928 to Carlota and Sartunino Gonzalez. He married Santos Guadalupe Torres in 1949. They raised 3 daughters and 2 sons whom they loved deeply. Mr. Gonzalez was a determined and hardworking man who leaves his family with much to rejoice. He was an usher for San Martin De Porres Catholic Church for many years. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching baseball and spending time with his family; which consisted of 16 grandchildren. 45 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Santiago is preceded in death by his parents Carlota and Sarturnino Gonzalez, his wife Santos Guadalupe Torres, his daughter Susan Medelez, his two sisters Arcadia and Tomasa, and his three brothers Eppie, Paul and Daniel. He is survived by his two sisters Elvirna Navarre and Guadalupe Gonzalez and his four children; Janie (Jose) Aguirre, Santiago (May) Gonzalez Jr, Roberto (Tommie) Gonzalez and Josie Flores. Visitation will be held Thursday, September 22, 2016 at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco from 12-9pm with a praying of the rosary at 7pm (900 W 4 Street in Weslaco, TX). Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 23, 2016 at 10am at San Martin De Porres Catholic Church in Weslaco with burial to follow at Highland Cemetery in Weslaco. A very special thank you to Knapp Medical Center, Weslaco Rehab Hospital, Weslaco Nursing Home & Rehab, Retama Nursing Home and Aurora House.
