La Feria- Santos T Espinoza, 73, passed away on Wednesday, January 30th, 2019 at Harlingen Medical Center after a 25 year battle with cancer. Santos was born on September 14, 1945, to Jose Santos Espinoza and Refugia Tovar Espinoza in Mexico. When Santos was a young teenager, his father struck a deal to get them into the United States legally. They were dropped off on the side of the road in Texas and within five minutes, a farmer asked them if they were looking for work, so Santos, his two brothers and sister, and his parents went to work. The family migrated to Michigan every year, which is where Santos met his wife, Bertha Flores. Santos and Bertha raised their four children in St. Charles, Michigan and enjoyed the next thirty years together until Bertha's untimely death on February 12, 1995. After many years of migrating and farm work, Santos went to work for General Motors driving a forklift. He retired after 25 years of service. He and his wife, Ancelma, enjoyed his retirement together. Unfortunately, much of that time has been spent on fighting cancer and Ancelma has been a caring and compassionate caregiver. Santos enjoyed working on cars, fishing, and hunting. He was a great gardener and did landscaping to earn extra money most of his life. He will mostly be remembered by his love of the Lord, Jesus Christ, and his steadfast faith and commitment to the Catholic Church. He volunteered his time in prison ministry and undoubtedly save many souls witnessing to others. Santos is preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Refugia Espinoza, wife, Bertha Espinoza, sons, Eddie Espinoza, and Roberto Flores, and brother, Filiberto Espinoza. He is survived by his loving wife, Ancelma Espinoza, sons, Marco Espinoza, Martin Espinoza, sister Ruth Ann Espinoza, and step-sons, Cesar Costilla and Pablo Costilla. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 1st, at McCaleb Funeral Home from 10 am to 9 pm, with a rosary at 7 pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 2nd, 10 am, at St Pius X Catholic Church in Weslaco. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Park.
