WESLACO - Santos Medrano, Sr., 91, passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2016 at McAllen Medical Center. Mr. Medrano was a life long resident of Weslaco, Texas. He was a parishioner at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church were he served as an alter boy from the age of 8 until he was 14 years old. Those who were fortunate to know Mr. Medrano knew he was a man of prayer and wore a fedora hat when he wasn't wearing his work cap. Years after retiring from J&R Supply Company in Edinburg, Texas at the age of 81, Mr. Medrano struggled with dementia. Upon his 91st birthday, Mr. Medrano developed pneumonia and suffered complications, from which he was unable to recover from while in the hospital. Mr. Medrano is preceded in death by his parents: Tiburcio and Margarita Sanchez Medrano; his brothers Delfino, Domingo, Daniel and Martin Medrano; his sisters Abrana and Juana Medrano; his wife, Ernestina Peña Medrano, his son, Ricardo Medrano, and daughter, Anaceli Medrano Reyna. He is survived by his sister Maria Paula Medrano of Weslaco and three children: Gracie (J.C.) Cardenas of Weslaco, Araceli Espinoza of Kingsville, and Santos (Elvia) Medrano, Jr. of Corsicana, Texas. Mr. Medrano also leaves behind his nephew "Mingo" Medrano of Chicago, Illinois; fourteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the countless nurses and nurses' assistants at McAllen Medical Center who cared for Mr. Medrano unconditionally during his final days and for all of the thoughts and prayers received from friends and family. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 18th, from 4pm to 9pm at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco with a 7pm Rosary. Funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, October 19th at St. Joan of Arc, 2pm with burial to follow at Highland Memorial Park. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco.
