Sara G. Cota, a hardworking and resilient woman, passed away at 95 on Tuesday, January 23, 2024. Born on August 3, 1928, in Colorado, Sara's life was a testament to determination and grace. She touched the lives of many with her elegance and independent spirit.
Sara did not have a formal education, but she was a quick learner with a tremendous work ethic. She also loved fashion and was always impeccably dressed; her makeup was flawlessly done, and her natural charisma allowed Sara to work her way up. Soon, she was manager of the clothing department and jewelry section at JC Penny in Fresno, California. Her passion for jewelry was unmatched, and Sara was also artistic and could make any combination of clothes look remarkable. Sara's career at JCPenney was the highlight of her life. She thrived in the retail industry; meeting new people and helping customers was her dream job.
Sara indulged in various hobbies that showcased her artistic flair outside of work. She was particularly passionate about cosmetology, honing her skills to perfection. Additionally, she had a collection of antique dolls that she cherished dearly. Her love for drawing allowed her creativity to flourish, leaving behind beautiful works of art that captured the essence of her talent.
Sara’s Catholic faith was unwavering. She prayed the rosary daily. Sara was active at St. John’s Catholic Church in Fresno, California, for many years. She contributed to countless fundraisers, projects, and prayer groups.
Sara's vibrant personality left an indelible mark on everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her resilience in adversity inspired those around her, reminding them to face challenges head-on with unwavering determination. Sara's elegance was not limited to appearances but permeated every aspect of her being.
Sara is preceded in death by her parents, Brijido and Josefina Garcia, husband, Jesse Cota, and sister, Carmen Canales (Joe), and brother, Luis Garcia.
She is survived by her children, Gloria Mendoza (Joe), Susie Castellanos (Frank), Ruben Quintanilla (Glenda), and Mavie Castellano; brother, Ramon Garcia (Ermela+); grandchildren, Jolie Haering, Michael Mendoza (Valerie), Cassandra Russell (Eric), Iliana "Kim" Castallenos, Frank "Paco" Castellanos (Michelle), Christopher Castellanos (Alicia), Celinda Quintanilla (Esmer Guajardo), Cecilia De Los Santos (Lucio), twelve great-grandchildren, Sofia Maria and Madeline Mendoza, Nicholas, Joshua and Taylor Haering, Kaitlyn Gomez, John Paul Garza, Nicole and Joshua Castellanos, Maverick Guajardo, Diego and Zachary De Los Santos, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Friday, January 26, 2024, from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm to 9:00 pm, with a rosary at 7 pm. The funeral service will be on Saturday, 10 am, at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Weslaco, followed by burial at Sacred Park Cemetery in Mercedes.
